Immolation - "Providence" (2011)

Taktyka co najmniej dziwna. Robiąc za przedsmak "Majesty And Decay", "Providence" byłaby epką o wiele sensowniejszą aniżeli taką będącą osobnym wydawnictwem wydanym rok po premierze wspomnianej płyty. Zwłaszcza, że materiału uzbierano tutaj zaskakująco sporo jak na epkę. Taka najwidoczniej polityka zespołu. Najważniejsze, że jednak i na tym cedeku znalazła się masa świetnej muzyki, niekiedy dosyć zaskakującej na tle innych płyt Immolation - co szczególnie powinno być zachęcające w przypadku osób, które zazwyczaj się nie interesują mini-wydawnictwami (w tym piszący). 

Na epce znalazło się 5 utworów, z czego 2 zagłębiają się w mniej oczywiste dla Immoli rejony, a pozostałe 3 skupiają się na kontynuowaniu patentów "Majesty...". Największe zaskoczenie znalazło się już na samym początku krążka. W "What They Bring" zespół zasuwa z blastami prawie jak za czasów z Hernandezem prezentując jeszcze większą brutalność niż gdziekolwiek na "Majesty And Decay"! Poza tym, znalazło się w nim również miejsce na fajne, nieco morbidowe zwolnienie.

Dalej grupa już nieco zwalnia, ale przykuwa ciekawym wykorzystaniem filmowych orkiestracji w "Illumination" (z tym, że bez tandety jak jakiś Dimmu Borgir), a w kolejnych trzech (tj. "Still Lost", tytułowym i "Swallow The Fear") leci już mocno w klimatach utworów "Majesty And Decay". To ta sama historia co przy utworach z "Hope And Horror", świetnie kumulują one wszystkie atuty tego zespołu i jednocześnie pokazują na tyle sporą pomysłowość Amerykanów, że trudno je nazwać tanim "best ofem" pod przykrywką nowych utworów. Sceptyka epek tym przekonali, więc to chyba wystarczająca rekompensata. Sound jest dosyć podobny do "Majesty...", aranżacje i klimat też, a te parę, wyżej wspomnianych innowacji to dobry wabik, na zarzucających "Providence" bycie "Majesty And Decay" w pigułce. W obecnych czasach, epki to nic innego jak naciąganie fanów na kasę, tymczasem na "Providence", zespół daje wystarczająco sporo powodów, że nawet do takich pomniejszych płyt Immole przykładają się jak mało kto.

A strange tactic. Taking "Majesty And Decay" as a foretaste, "Providence" would be a much more sensible ep than an ep that was released a year after the premiere of the said album. Especially that the material collected here is surprisingly much for an ep. This is apparently the policy of the band. The most important thing is that this cd also features a lot of great music, sometimes quite surprising compared to other Immolation albums - which should be particularly encouraging for people who are usually not interested in mini-releases (including me). 

There are 5 tracks on the ep, 2 of which delve into areas less obvious to Immolation and the remaining 3 focus on continuing the patents of "Majesty...". The biggest surprise was at the very beginning of the album. In "What They Bring" the band blasts almost like they did with Hernandez, presenting even more brutality than anywhere else on "Majesty And Decay"! On top of that, it also included a cool, Morbid Angel-like breakdown. 

Later, the group slows down a bit, but attracts with an interesting use of film orchestrations in "Illumination" (but without trashy patterns like Dimmu Borgir), and in the next three (i.e. "Still Lost", title track and "Swallow The Fear") strongly in the atmosphere of the songs from "Majesty And Decay". This is the same story as with the songs from "Hope And Horror", they perfectly accumulate all the advantages of this band and at the same time show so much creativity of the Americans that it's difficult to call them a cheap "best of" under the cover of new songs. They convinced the skeptic of the eps, so this is probably a sufficient compensation. The sound is quite similar to "Majesty...", the arrangements and atmosphere too and these few, mentioned above innovations are a good lure, accusing "Providence" of being "Majesty And Decay" in a nutshell. Nowadays, eps are nothing more than cheating fans on the money, while on "Providence" the band gives enough reasons that even their eps are worth attention.
