Sadist - "Tribe" (1995)

Przy takich wydawnictwach jak "Tribe" trudno o jakiś normalny i mało entuzjastyczny wstęp. No bo jak w pełni przelać na klawiaturę szaleństwo, jakie się na nim znalazło? Nie da się! - co jeszcze bardziej będzie widoczne w dalszej części tekstu. Otóż, na "Tribe", Włosi przeszli samych siebie! Udało im się bowiem stworzyć kolejną niezwykle unikalną porcję muzyki, a przy tym jeszcze ciekawszą i znacznie bardziej pokręconą niż na "Above The Light" - co zakrawa niemal na niemożliwe. Ciekawe jest to również o tyle, że tak istotnego progresu zespół dokonał w dość przypadkowym składzie, jednym z najbardziej chwilowych w karierze Sadist.

Na tle debiutu, "Tribe" to zatem zupełnie nowa jakość, ba!, kompletnie inny wymiar progresywnego grania nawet w zestawieniu z Cynic czy Atheist. Pozmieniał się chociażby klimat (tym razem nawiązując do dżunglowych świątyń, katakumb itp.), technika, melodie, bas (na bardziej jazzowy - w końcu, Chicco Parisi nagrywał na fretlessie), wokal (na scheaferowsko-schuldinerowski), riffy (bliższe późnego Death), motoryka czy ogólny format krążka (na bardziej zbity). Najważniejsze jednak: solówki i klawisze. Oba to największe atuty krążka (jakby do kogoś wcześniejsze nie przemawiały) i oba, które przeszły najwięcej zmian na przestrzeni tych dwóch lat. Ale, ale, te dwie składowe to również pokaz jak utalentowanym kompozytorem jest Tommy Talamanca. Nawet dla samych solówek warto się w "Tribe" zagłębić (a dokładniej mówiąc w "Den Siste Kamp", "Escogido", "Spiral Of Winter Ghosts" czy "The Reign Of Asmat" - opad szczeny gwarantowany)! Poza tym, równie istotna kwestia, czyli wspomniane klawisze. Taaak, tutaj również Włosi zaszaleli grubo ponad normę (pytanie, przy czym nie zaszaleli...). Chociażby dość często stosowany jest patent kamuflowania gitar względem...samych klawiszy! Nieszablonowość i ekstrawagancja to jedno, ale na tle konkurentów, jeszcze większy talent do pokręconych (i orientalnych) klimatów oraz świetnie wyważonej progresji.

"Tribe" to ostatni sensowny etap rozwoju Sadist z ich pierwszego okresu działalności. Na przestrzeni tak krótkiego czasu (tj. dwóch lat), zespół zdołał utrzymać ultra-wysoki poziom, a jednocześnie był on w stanie do wcześniejszego stylu podejść zupełnie inaczej, wprowadzając szereg intrygujących i niecodziennych zmian. Aż żal więc, że nie pociągnęli tego jeszcze dalej na następnych dwóch krążkach.

With such releases as "Tribe" it's hard to get a normal and not very enthusiastic introduction. Well, how to fully transfer the madness on it to the review? It's not possible! - which will be even more visible later in the text. On "Tribe", the Italians have outdone themselves! They managed to create another extremely unique portion of music, and at the same time even more interesting and much more twisted than on "Above The Light" - which seems almost impossible. It's also interesting because the band made such a significant progress in a quite random line-up, one of the most "temporary" in Sadist's career. 

Against the background of the debut, "Tribe" is a completely new quality, indeed, a completely different dimension of progressive death metal, even in combination with Cynic or Atheist. For example, the climate (this time referring to jungle temples, catacombs, etc.), technique, melodies, bass (for a more jazzy one - Chicco Parisi recorded it on fretless bass), vocals (in Scheafer-Schuldiner-like style), riffs (closer to the late Death), paces or the general format of the disc (more compact). However, the most important: solos and keyboards. Both are the biggest advantages of the disc (as if the previous ones didn't appeal to anyone) and both of them have undergone the most changes over the past two years. Buuut, these two components also show how a talented composer is Tommy Talamanca. Even for the solos themselves, it's worth delving into "Tribe" (or more precisely in "Den Siste Kamp", "Escogido", "Spiral Of Winter Ghosts" or "The Reign Of Asmat" - face-melted effect guaranteed)! In addition, an equally important issue, i.e. the aforementioned keys. Yeah, here also the Italians went crazy above the norm (question, where it didn't happen ...). Even quite often the patent of guitar camouflage is used in relation to...the keyboards themselves! Unconventional and extravagant are one thing, but compared to the competition, even greater talent for twisted (and oriental) climates and well-balanced progression. 

"Tribe" is the last meaningful step forward in Sadist's discography from their first period of activity. Over such a short period of time (i.e. two years), the band managed to maintain an ultra-high level, and at the same time they were able to approach the previous style completely differently, introducing a number of intriguing and unusual changes. It's a pity that they didn't take it even further on the next two albums.
