Blood Incantation - "Interdimensional Extinction" (2015)
To właśnie w Blood Incantation pokładano nadzieje na nowych bogów ekstremy. Te, jak czas pokazał, nie zostały zupełnie wyssane z palca i znalazły swoje faktyczne przełożenie. W końcu, po muzykę tych Amerykanów dość szybko zaczęli sięgać ludzie, którzy o nazwach pokroju Morbid Angel, Timeghoul czy Incantation wcześniej nie słyszeli. W każdym razie, start tej ekipy z Denver datuje się na 2011 rok, kiedy to grupka przyjaciół, czyli Paul Riedl (gitara/wokal), Isaac Faulk (perkusja) i Morris Kolontyrsky (gitara) postanowili zacząć łoić death metal łączący piwniczną zgniliznę z kosmicznymi klimatami. Zanim ów intrygująca wizja ukształtowała się pod postacią longplayów, zespół wydał trzy demówki oraz w 2015 roku - najlepiej wieńczącą ten najwcześniejszy okres - epkę "Interdimensional Extinction". To pomniejsze wydawnictwo bardzo znacząco wpłynęło na rozkwit zainteresowania wokół Blood Incantation, mimo że grupa nie miała jeszcze pełnego składu, a wówczas sesyjnie udzielał się u nich na basie Damon Good z m.in. Stargazer (grał też na trzeciej demówce).
Czemuż się dziwić, muzyka na owym "Interdimensional Extinction" bardzo zgrabnie nawiązuje do ww. amerykańskich klasyków, a przy tym brzmi naturalnie i po swojemu. Epka ta to raptem 18 minut, ale już za jej sprawą śmiało można się przekonać, że w death metalu nadal mogą powstawać wydawnictwa, które zaskakują. Na "Interdimensional..." miesza się ze sobą bowiem morbidowa brutalność, technika w typie Death, progresywne wstawki i doom metalowy ciężar, a nad całością wyraźnie unosi się futurystyczny klimat. Jest w tym wszystkim niesamowity potencjał (co oczywiście grupa rozwinęła z nawiązką na następnych wydawnictwach), bo nawet już pierwsze z brzegu kawałki pokroju "Subterrarean Aeon" czy "Hovering Lifeless" doskonale ukazują, że ekipy Paula Riedla nie interesowało ślepe naśladownictwo, a własna wizja na tego typu zróżnicowany death metal. Na etapie "Interdimensional..." wprawdzie mógł razić nieco plastikowy sound perkusji czy ogólny niedosyt ze skromności materiału (wiadomo, takiego death metalu w końcu nigdy za wiele!), ale da się na to wszystko przymknąć oko w kontekście, że takiej muzyki powstaje znacznie znacznie mniej niż te 20-30 lat temu. Co by nie mówić, na kontynuację nie trzeba było długo czekać.
Start Blood Incantation należy uznać zatem za bardzo udany. Na "Interdimensional Extinction", ekipie Paula Riedla udało się bowiem znaleźć wyśmienity balans pomiędzy inspiracjami a własnymi pomysłami, tak by ich ten s-f death metal intrygował i przyciągał na dłużej. Zresztą, pokłosiem tego okazał się być ich oficjalny debiut, który pojawił się raptem rok później i narobił jeszcze większego szumu.

Blood Incantation quickly came to be called the new gods of the extreme music. These, as time has shown, were not completely exaggerated and found its true justification. After all, the music of these Americans was quickly listened up by people who had never heard bands like Morbid Angel, Timeghoul or Incantation before. Anyway, start of this Denver band dates back to 2011, when a group of friends, i.e. Paul Riedl (guitars/vocals), Isaac Faulk (drums) and Morris Kolontyrsky (guitars) decided to start creating death metal combining underground atmosphere with cosmic climates. Before this intriguing vision took shape in the form of longplays, the band released three demos and in 2015 - the best crowning of this earliest period - the "Interdimensional Extinction" ep. This minor release had a very significant impact on the creating hype around Blood Incantation, even though the group did not have a full line-up yet, and at that time Damon Good from i.a. Stargazer played session bass for this release (also he appeared on their third demo).
No wonder, the music on "Interdimensional Extinction" very neatly refers to the above American classics, and at the same time, sounds natural and in its own way. This ep is only 18 minutes long, but on this release you can easily see that younger death metal bands can still produce releases that surprise. On "Interdimensional..." morbidish brutality, Death-type technique, progressive inserts and doom metal heaviness are mixed well together, and the futuristic atmosphere clearly fits here. There is an amazing potential in all this (which, of course, the group developed with more than that on the next releases), because even the exemplary songs like "Subterrarean Aeon" or "Hovering Lifeless" perfectly show that Paul Riedl's band was not interested in blind imitation, and they wanted to create their own vision for this type of s-f death metal. At the "Interdimensional..." period, although the plastic sound of the drums or the general lack of modesty of the material could offend (you know, there is never too much death metal in this type after all!), but you can turn a blind eye to all this in the context that such music is created much much less than those 20-30 years ago. Needless to say, we didn't have to wait long for the sequel.
The start of Blood Incantation should therefore be considered very successful. On "Interdimensional Extinction", Paul Riedl's band managed to find a perfect balance between inspirations and their own ideas, so that this s-f death metal intrigues them and attracts them for longer. Anyway, the aftermath of this turned out to be their official debut, which appeared only a year later and made even more hype.
