Krypts - "Remnants Of Expansion" (2016)

Narastające sukcesy po ukazaniu się "Unending Degradation" wywarły na Finach z Krypts szybką chęć pociągnięcia tematów z jedynki pod postacią drugiej płyty. Najpierw jednak skład ponownie rozszerzył się o drugiego gitarzystę, tym razem dużo bardziej profesjonalnego Jukkę Aho (równocześnie grającego w Gorephilia), potem, w międzyczasie promowania "Unending...", zaczęto tworzyć nowe kawałki z myślą o drugim albumie. Prace szły dość sprawnie, przez co ów "Remnants Of Expansion" ukazał się w 2016 roku, a ogólne zainteresowanie i oczekiwania wobec tego materiału zyskały jeszcze większe proporcje niż przy okazji debiutu. Zdaniem większości, hype ten, na "Remnants..." jak najbardziej się udało przebić...

...a zdaniem mym - no niezbyt. Finowie wprawdzie nie stworzyli na "Remnants Of Expansion" niczego fatalnego czy nie do przyjęcia. W mojej opinii kwartet - po prostu - za bardzo położył tu nacisk na doomowy pierwiastek względem tego deathowego. W teorii, niby nic z tego złego, wszak Krypts nie przymulają najwolniej na świecie (a w rejony funeral doom metalu też ich nie ciągnie), a z ogólnej perspektywy niektórym podobne zmiany wychodziły nawet na plus; niestety, w praktyce, nie wszędzie się udało zachować na "Remnants..." jednakowo dobre pomysły na kontynuację czy badanie innych gruntów tego typu wolnego grania. Często chociażby trafia się sytuacja, że zespół pompuje napięcie do olbrzymich rozmiarów, po czym...punkt kulminacyjny nie nadchodzi! No i efekt tego taki, że duża część z utworów, choć przyzwoita i nie sprawiająca bólów podczas słuchania, snuje się bez celu, nie zapada w pamięć i brakuje jej zwyczajnych konkretów. Przykładem m.in "Arrow Of Entropy", "The Withering Titan" oraz "Transfixed", które gdyby zyskały więcej szaleństwa i brutalności przytłaczałyby zdecydowanie bardziej bezlitośnie.

Z tego prostego względu, "Remnants Of Expansion", mimo że przyzwoity, nie umywa się poziomem do debiutu. Na swoim drugim krążku Finowie bowiem zbyt mocno ukierunkowali się w doomową stylistykę kosztem ogólnej intensywności. Mówiąc zatem wcześniej o tkwiącym potencjale na więcej, powinno to w przypadku Krypts zostać bardziej doprecyzowane - jeśli zwiększą obroty przy jednoczesnym przyłożeniu. Na "Remnants Of Expansion" bywa z tym naprawdę różnie.

The growing success after the release of "Unending Degradation" made the Finns from Krypts quickly want to pursue the themes from the first album in the form of a second album. First, however, the line-up expanded again with a second guitarist, this time the much more professional Jukka Aho (from Gorephilia), then, in the meantime of promoting "Unending...", new songs were created for the second album. The work went quite smoothly, so "Remnants Of Expansion" was released in 2016, and the general interest and expectations towards this material gained even greater proportions than on the occasion of the debut. According to most of the listeners, the hype on "Remnants..." was most successful...

...and in my opinion - well, not so much. The Finns did not create anything fatal or unacceptable on "Remnants Of Expansion". Well, the quartet - simply - put too much emphasis on the doomy elements in relation to the death metal elements. In theory, nothing bad about it, after all, Krypts are not the slowest in the world (and they did not turn into funeral doom metal either), and from a general perspective, some similar changes were even a plus in a lot of bands; unfortunately, in practice, not everywhere on "Remnants..." is equally good for being a continuation or exploration of other grounds of this type of death/doom Often, for example, there is a situation where the band makes huge tension to enormous proportions, and then...the climax does not come! And the effect of this is that most parts of the tracks, although decent and not causing pain when listening, wander aimlessly, do not stick in mind and lack power. Examples include "Arrow Of Entropy", "The Withering Titan" and "Transfixed", which, if they gained more madness and brutality, would definitely overwhelm them more mercilessly.

For this simple reason, "Remnants Of Expansion", although decent, does not match the level of the debut. On their second album, the Finns focused too much on the doom style at the expense of the overall intensity. So, mentioning earlier about the potential for more, it should be more precise in the case of Krypts - if they increase the madness and brutality. On "Remnants Of Expansion" it's really different with this theme.
