Sarpanitum - "Blessed Be My Brothers" (2015)

Los nie był zbyt łaskawy dla ekipy Toma Hyde'a z Sarpanitum niedługo po ukazaniu się "Despoilment Of Origin". Parę lat po debiucie, który notabene przeszedł gdzieś zupełnie bokiem, zespół zrobił sobie krótką przerwę w działalności, przeszedł konkretne zmiany w składzie (od teraz stałym filarem kapeli zostali Tom Innocenti oraz Tom Hyde), a z następcą "jedynki" uwijał się stosunkowo powoli (po drodze była jeszcze bardzo dobra epka "Fidelium" - przedsmak omawianej płyty). Mimo tych zawirowań, efekt muzykom wyszedł dużo ponad moje oczekiwania, ba!, "Blessed Be My Brothers" to istne przeciwieństwo swojego "pełnego" poprzednika, longplay, który aż ocieka w genialne patenty i nietuzinkowe pomysły. 

W porównaniu do "Despoilment...", "dwójka" Sarpanitum to fuzja czegoś co można by określić jako najlowaty Mithras (albo mithrasowy Nile), muzyka pełna gitarowej wirtuozerii a la Azagthoth, ekstremy w stylu "Behind The Shadows..." oraz egzotycznych klimatów kapeli Sandersa z początków jej studyjnej działalności - czyli generalnie dosyć nieczęste połączenie. No i żeby było śmieszniej, to też album, na którym pojawił się Leon Macey w roli perkusisty. Za wyjątkiem trzech introsów (które całościowo jednak idealnie łączą się z resztą oprawy płyty), "Blessed..." jawi się jako krążek, gdzie znalazło się po równo techniki, klimatu, brutalności, ale...i melodii. Przykładem niechaj będzie chociażby pierwszy z brzegu "By Virtuous Reclamation". Co do reszty...tak naprawdę każdy z tych utworów zasługuje na miano prawdziwego killera! Wspomniałbym tu choćby o "Thy Sermon Lies Forever Tarnished", "Truth", kawałku tytułowym czy "Glorification Upon The Powdered Bones Of The Sundered Dead", choć i to nie wyczerpuje w całości tematu! We wszystkich z utworów tkwi tu inny pomysł, i to pomimo jednej tematyki (a o czym jest - okładka może sugerować). 

Wiele pochwał należy się też samym muzykom, zarówno Hyde'owi i Maceyowi za instrumentalne szaleństwa, ale także Innocentowi za jeszcze lepsze wokalizy względem debiutu (mocno w typie Karla Sandersa-Anttiego Bomana) oraz za udane wplątanie klawiszowych smaczków podkreślających nieco orientalny klimat. Coś trzeba jeszcze dodawać? Oczywiście, że kurwa nie! Dla mnie, "Blessed Be My Brothers" to absolutnie najwyższa półka i jeden z najlepszych krążków jakie ukazały się w ekstremalnym metalu w 2015 roku. No i deklasuje on większość ostatnich płyt Morbid Angel i Nile.

Fate wasn't very kind to Tom Hyde's Sarpanitum shortly after the release of "Despoilment Of Origin". A few years after the debut, which incidentally went completely sideways, the band took a short break, underwent specific changes in the line-up (from now, Tom Innocenti and Tom Hyde became a permanent pillar of the band), and with the next album the band had to wait a bit (there was also very good EP "Fidelium" - a foretaste of the discussed album). Nevertheless, the effect of these musicians exceeded my expectations, well!, "Blessed Be My Brothers" is a real opposite of its "full" predecessor, the LP, which shines with brilliant patents and extraordinary ideas. 

Compared to "Desoilment...", "Blessed..." is a fusion of what could be described as Nilthras (or Mithle), music full of guitar virtuosity a la Azagthoth, extremes in the style of "Behind The Shadows..." and exotic atmospehre of Sanders' band from the beginning of its studio activity - which is generally quite a rare combination. And to make it funnier, this is also an album where Leon Macey appeared as a drummer. Except for three introses (which, however, integrate perfectly with the rest of the album concept), "Blessed..." is an album with as much technique, atmosphere, brutality and...melody. An example is the first "By Virtuous Reclamation". For the rest...in fact, each of these tracks deserves to be called a real killers! I would mention here, for example, "Thy Sermon Lies Forever Tarnished", "Truth", the title track or "Glorification Upon The Powdered Bones Of The Sundered Dead", although this is not the whole theme! There is a different ideads in all of the songs, despite one conceptt (and what is it about - the cover may suggest). 

Much good words are also due to the musicians themselves, both Hyde and Macey for instrumental madness, but also Innocenti for even better vocals than the debut (more in the type of Karl Sanders-Antti Boman) and for the successful entanglement of keyboard flavors emphasizing a bit oriental atmosphere. Anything else I need to add? Of course not! For me, "Blessed Be My Brothers" is absolutely one of the best albums released in extreme metal in 2015. And it outclasses most of the latest Morbid Angel and Nile albums.
