Vektor - "Outer Isolation" (2011)

Zaledwie 2 lata po spektakularnym debiucie, amerykański Vektor uderzył z jego następcą, czyli właśnie "Outer Isolation". No i...tylko im pogratulować! Bo pomimo dość ekspresowego tempa nagrywania, ów krążek to niezwykle udana kontynuacja wątków z "Black Future", a przy tym pokaz, że do tematu prog-thrashowego grania dało się podejść jeszcze inaczej i zedytować parę elementów, które teoretycznie zmian nie potrzebowały. Co najlepsze, takie kompromisowe podejście popłaciło Amerykanom również według opinii ogółu.

Nie ma co się jednak dziwić. "Outer..." powiela wszystkie zalety "Black Future", a zarazem nie brzmi jak kalka tamtych pomysłów czy krążek zorientowany na tani zysk. Ba, czuć na nim barrrdzo wyraźnie, że poprzednia stylistyka nie została wyeksploatowana - stąd, bez radykalnych zmian Amerykanie wiedzieli jak osiągnąć podobny geniusz. Po raz drugi jest to bowiem na tyle zmyślnie i kapitalnie skomponowana muzyka, że nie sposób jej uznać za bezmyślnie zapatrzoną w myśl "bardziej thrashowego Voivod". Dosłownie każdy jej element (łącznie z inspiracjami) wypływa tutaj grupie naturalnie, bez silenia się na oldschool i z olbrzymim luzem przy przekładaniu wpływów wspomnianego Voivod na swoje (wiadomo, jeszcze dochodzą nawiązania do Coroner, Obliveon czy Watchtower). Różnice "Outer Isolation" względem "Black Future" to z kolei jeszcze bardziej ekspresyjny wokal Davida (np. "Echoless Chamber"), wyraźniejszy bas (w sumie dowolny kawałek), mocniej pokręcone struktury ("Venus Project", "Fast Paced Society", "Tetrastructural Minds"), skondensowanie ilości utworów (tym razem jest ich 8) oraz nieco ładniejsze brzmienie. Pozostałe składowe grania Vektor zaś zgrabnie wpisują się w stylistykę debiutu, toteż uważam, że jakoś bardzo szczegółowy opis tych elementów nie jest konieczny w tym miejscu. Sam zresztą wyraźnie zaznaczyłem na początku tego akapitu: "Outer..." powiela wszystkie zalety "Black Future", a zarazem nie brzmi jak kalka tamtych pomysłów czy krążek zorientowany na tani zysk.  

Tak więc, "Outer Isolation" to kawał znakomicie skomponowanego, progresywnego thrash metalu, który zdołał utrzymać ciężar "Black Future". Amerykanom z Vektor w doskonały sposób udało się nagrać kontynuację tamtej płyty, a przy tym, wiedzieli oni jak przy znanych pomysłach stworzyć, nowe równie ciekawe kompozycje. Najciekawsze, że...na tym ewolucja tego amerykańskiego zespołu się nie zakończyła!

Only 2 years after their spectacular debut, the Americans from Vektor struck with their successor, the "Outer Isolation". And...just congratulate them! Despite the quite fast pace of recording, this disc is an extremely successful continuation of the ideas from "Black Future", and at the same time a show that the subject of prog-thrash could be approached differently and edited a few elements that theoretically did not need any changes. Best of all, this compromise approach paid off for Americans in the opinions as well. 

However this is not surprising. "Outer..." repeats all the advantages of "Black Future", and at the same time does not sound like a cheap copy of those ideas. Well, you can feel very clearly on it that the previous style has not been exploited - hence, without radical changes, the Americans knew how to achieve a similar genius. For the second time it's so cleverly and perfectly composed music that it cannot be considered as thoughtlessly devoted as "more thrashy Voivod". Literally every element of it (including inspirations) comes naturally, without trying to be old school and with great ease in taking the influence of the aforementioned Voivod into their own (there are also nice references to Coroner, Obliveon or Watchtower). The differences between "Outer Isolation" and "Black Future" are even more expressive David's vocals (e.g. "Echoless Chamber"), clearer bass (any track), more twisted structures ("Venus Project", "Fast Paced Society" , "Tetrastructural Minds"), condensing the number of tracks (this time there are 8 of them) and a slightly prettier sound. The other components of Vektor's sound fit neatly into the style of the debut, so I think that somehow a very detailed description of these elements is not necessary at this point. Anyway, I clearly marked at the beginning of this paragraph: "Outer..." repeats all the advantages of "Black Future", and at the same time does not sound like a cheap copy of those ideas. 

So, "Outer Isolation" is a piece of superbly composed, progressive thrash metal that managed to hold the level of "Black Future". The Americans from Vektor perfectly managed to record the continuation of that album, and at the same time, they knew how to create new, equally interesting compositions with well-known ideas. The most interesting thing is that...the evolution of this American band did not end there!
