Never - "Mind Regress" (2002)

Niepojęte jak bardzo pechowym zespołem był sosnowski Never! Pod względem promocji, a później również dostępności, "Mind Regress" to niemal ten sam nieciekawy temat co "Monument", tj. krążek wydany własnym sumptem, który - niestety - szybko przepadł w podziemiu i nie zyskał należytego uznania. Nie wspominam jednak o tym z patriotycznego obowiązku czy by tylko sobie pojojczyć. Nie, nie, nic z tych rzeczy - od tego są fejsbukowe grupki. Po prostu niezrozumiałe jest, że tak wizjonerska muzyka nie odbiła się szerszym echem. "Mind Regress" bowiem okazał się być wydawnictwem jeszcze bardziej interesującym od debiutu i...jednym z najlepszych z nurtu techniczno-melodyjnego death metalu, jakie ukazały się w Polsce!

Serio, "Mind Regress" w bardzo minimalnym stopniu ustępuje amerykańskim klasykom, jakimi kapela Sebastiana Synowskiego się inspirowała. Drugi album Never to bowiem absolutna klasa światowa i rzecz na piorunująco wysokim poziomie! Fakt, muzyka jest tu cholernie pokręcona i zdarza się jej wykraczać poza death metal, tyyyle że wszystkie te zawijasy, niuanse i przeróżne progresywne smaczki instrumentalne przekładają się na kapitalne kompozycje. No a tym nie brakuje pazura, pomysłowości czy wyważonej melodyjności. Przykładem chociażby "The Chapter Two", "Devilish Simplicity", "Bleeding Heart", "A Fucking Con" czy instrumentalny "Unnamed...Unleash The Chaos". Równie kapitalna jest też produkcja całości: selektywna, ale mięsista i bardzo potężnie brzmiąca. Idźmy dalej. Na pochwałę zasługują także sami muzycy. O gitarach, perkusji i wokalach w zasadzie mógłbym powtórzyć zachwyty z recki "Monument", natomiast pozachwalam sobie bas, bo wyrywa z kapci jeszcze bardziej niż pozostałe instrumenty. Tak zagrane/nagrane (również na bezprogowo) partie to bowiem sama słodycz dla słuchu, zwłaszcza dla wielbiących pokręcony, jazzowy styl Steve'a DiGiorgio czy innego Seana Malone'a. Ba, w przypadku "Mind Regress" można nawet rzec, że to bas jest największym bohaterem albumu - mimo ogólnie znakomitego warsztatu wszystkich muzyków.

Nie ma więc co przedłużać. Drugi krążek sosnowskiego Never to wydawnictwo z pełną rekomendacją dla wszystkich gustujących w bardziej technicznych odmianach metalu. O przeroście formy nad treścią na "Mind Regress" nie ma mowy, a i bywa i tak, że ciężko się od tej płyty uwolnić.

Inconceivable how unlucky Never was! In terms of promotion, and later also availability, "Mind Regress" is almost the same uninteresting subject as "Monument", i.e. the self-released album, which - unfortunately - was quickly lost in the underground and did not gain due recognition. However, I do not mention it out of a patriotic duty (well, I'm from Poland!). No, no, none of that - that's what Facebook groups are for. It's simply incomprehensible that such visionary music did not gain popularity. "Mind Regress" turned out to be a release even more interesting than its debut and...one of the best in the technical-melodic death metal that has been released in Poland! 

Seriously, "Mind Regress" is very slightly inferior to the American classics, which inspired Sebastian Synowski's band. The second album of Never is an absolute world class and a thing on an electrifyingly high level! The fact is that the music is really twisted and it happens to go beyond death metal patterns, but all these twists, nuances and various progressive instrumental flavors come into great compositions. And this is not without heaviness, ingenuity or well-balanced melodiousness. Examples include "The Chapter Two", "Devilish Simplicity", "Bleeding Heart", "A Fucking Con" or the instrumental "Unnamed...Unleash The Chaos". The production of the whole is just great: selective, but fleshy and very powerful. Let's move on. The musicians themselves also deserve praise. About guitars, drums and vocals, in principle, I could repeat the delights from the "Monument" review, but I will tell more about bass, because it pulls out even more than the other instruments. The parts played/recorded in this way (also on fretless bass) are sweet to the ears, especially for those who love the twisted, jazzy style of Steve DiGiorgio or other Sean Malone. In the case of "Mind Regress" you can even say that the bass is the greatest point of the album - despite the generally excellent technique of all the musicians. 

So there is no need to extend it. The second album by Never is a release with a full recommendation for all those who like more technical types of metal. There is no overgrowing form over content on "Mind Regress", and it also happens that it's hard to break free from this album.
