Krypts - "Cadaver Circulation" (2019)

Wieść o owym "Cadaver Circulation" wywołała pewne poruszenie - to akurat żadna nowość z większości katalogu Dark Descent Records. Co innego tutaj na "Trochę Subiektywizmu...", ponieważ mój wrodzony sceptycyzm szybko kazał wstrzymywać się z wszelkimi, barwnymi opiniami do czasu pojawienia się krążka w oficjalnym obiegu. Poprzedni album Finów, czyli "Remnants Of Expansion", po prostu wynudził mnie niemożebnie i rozmywał się w stanowczo zbyt wielu fragmentach - stąd też nie miałem jakichś szczególnych oczekiwań po takim death/doomowym klocu. Przyszedł jednak "Cadaver Circulation" i trochę się u Finów pozmieniało...całe szczęście, tylko na lepsze!

Na swoim trzecim pełniaku, kwartet bowiem spiął się i nagrał dużo bardziej bezpośredni materiał. Nadal w rejonach death/doom oraz z naciskiem na gruzowo-snujący się klimat, ale bez zbędnego zamulania i silenia się na przesadnie rozległe formy. W porównaniu do "Remnants Of Expansion", "Cadaver Circulation" jest bardziej zwarty, dużo więcej się na nim dzieje, a w wolnych partiach wciąga na dłużej i nie pozwala odpływać myślom gdzie indziej. Lepszość "Cadaver..." nie wynika jednak z samego faktu przewyższania poprzedniczki - to po prostu bardzo dobrze napisany death/doom metalowy album. Z jednej strony, ponownie przemycający brzydotę Incantation i - tu akurat nowinka - powolny, wisielczy klimat w nawiązaniu do Disembowelment, z drugiej, odnoszący się dość luźno do powyższych klasyków, mający swój własny feeling (odrobinę przypominający Spectral Voice, który...pojawił się później od Krypts) i dysponuje dużo lepszymi wokalami Anttiego Kotiranty niż w przeszłości (z konkretnym growlem oraz histeryczną wyziewnością). Zespół bowiem wyśmienicie odbił się od rozleniwionego "Remnants...", a ich death/doom przybrał na dynamice, ogólnym ciężarze i nie stroni on od wybuchowych przeskoków z blastami na czele. Przykładem "Vanishing", "Circling The Between", "The Reek Of Loss" oraz "Sinking Transient Waters". Najmniej przekonuje na "Cadaver..." za to brzmienie garów - dość płaskie i pozbawione głębi. Całości nie wadzi ten element jakoś znacząco (w czym nadrabiają tłuściutkie gitary), aczkolwiek przy tego typu ponurej muzyce lepiej sprawdziłby się bardziej naturalny sound perkusji.

W każdym razie, po "Remnants Of Expansion" Finom z Krypts udało się nagrać ciekawszy i znacznie bardziej porywający longplay. "Cadaver Circulation" bowiem świetnie pokazuje, że grupa w 2019 roku nie wypryskała się z pomysłów i była w stanie stworzyć kawał przemyślanego death/doomu - na tyle by był on miażdżący i z klimatem, a jednocześnie dynamiczny i pozbawiony recyklingu podobnych zagrywek. Tak więc, wyszła im stęchlizna na bardzo wysokim poziomie!

The announcement of releasing "Cadaver Circulation" from Finnish Krypts caused quite a huge hype - it's nothing new from most of the Dark Descent Records catalogue. It's different topic in the case of my reviews, because my innate skepticism quickly made me stop from any colorful opinions until the album appeared in the official distribution. The Finns' previous album, "Remnants Of Expansion", simply bored me and tired me in far too many fragments - hence I had no particular expectations from such a death/doom mediocre album. However, "Cadaver Circulation" came and the Finns changed a bit...fortunately, only for the better!

On their third full album, the quartet tightened up and recorded much more consistent material. Still in the areas of death/doom and with an emphasis on a sluggish climate, but without unnecessary slowdowns and excessively extensive forms. Compared to "Remnants Of Expansion", "Cadaver Circulation" is more cohesive, much more happens on it and in the slow fragments it attracts you in for longer and does not let your thoughts drift away elsewhere. However, the superiority of "Cadaver..." does not result from the mere fact of surpassing its predecessor - it's simply a very well written death/doom metal album. On the one hand, they again smuggled Incantation ugliness and - this time, new - a slow, gallows climate reminiscent of Disembowelment, on the other hand, they referred quite freely to the above-mentioned classics, they had its own feeling here (a bit reminiscent of Spectral Voice, which...appeared later from Krypts) and had much better Antti Kotiranta vocals than in the past (with a great growl and hysterical higher ones). The band perfectly took "Cadaver..." to a higher level than on "Remnants..." and their death/doom gained in dynamics, general heavines and does not avoid explosive plot twists with blasts. Examples include "Vanishing", "Circling The Between", "The Reek Of Loss" and "Sinking Transient Waters". The least convincing on "Cadaver..." is the sound of the drums - quite flat. The whole album is not significantly affected by this element (which the fleshy guitars make up for), although with this type of gloomy music, a more natural sound of the drums would work better.

Anyway, after "Remnants Of Expansion" the Finns from Krypts recorded a more interesting and much more thrilling longplay. "Cadaver Circulation" perfectly shows that the group in 2019 did not run out of ideas and was able to create a piece of thoughtful death/doom - enough to make it crushing and atmospheric, and at the same time dynamic and devoid of recycling similar ideas. So, they got mustiness at a very high level!
