Sedimentum - "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" (2022)
A cóż to tym razem? A no gruz wprost z Kanady. Tak się jakoś złożyło, że Sedimentum to stosunkowo nieświeża nazwa na naszym globie parająca się bardzo smolistym oraz prostym w wymowie death metalem, w guście Incantation z albumów nr 1 i 2, wczesnego Funebrarum, pierwszej Dismy oraz pierwszych dwóch Tomb Mold. Wiadomo, takiego inspirowania się było już na pęczki, a pewnie niektórzy zdążyli się przez ten czas nabawić gruzo-wstrętu, aczkolwiek przyznaję, że bardzo zachęciła mnie w tym wypadku okładka autorstwa Brada Moore'a (tworzył też obrazki dla m.in. Worm czy właśnie Tomb Mold) i postanowiłem tę szansę Kanadyjczykom dać. Start Sedimentum był jednak dość standardowy, tj. najpierw dema i splity, później pełniak, choć szybko nasuwa się tu ważne pytanie - czy właściwie każdy musi mieć spektakularny początek? Po zawartości "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" rzekłbym, że raczej nie, pomimo - jak się zaraz okaże - omawiania dość typowego materiału w tej niszy.
Skoro wzorce są już znane, z których Kanadyjczycy czerpią na potęgę, to w sumie nie jest tu potrzebny jakiś szczegółowy opis, z czym to się je. Takie płyty jak "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" powstają od maniaków dla maniaków, którym ciągle za mało, a debiuty Incantation potrafią recytować śpiewająco i zafascynowani są tamtejszą sceną maksymalnie ile się da. Zmierzam oczywiście do tego, iż debiut Sedimentum nie wprowadza nowej jakości czy czegokolwiek odkrywczego - na żadne niespodzianki po prostu nie ma tutaj co liczyć.
Riffy ciosane są więc bardzo topornie, dźwięk kruszy brudem, wokalista ryczy i buczy tak by kompletnie nie dało się go zrozumieć, perkman wzorowo tłucze proste rytmy lub onwardowe blasty, a smród zgnilizny unosi się przez cały album. Wspomniałem, że doomowe lub bardziej klimatyczne wstawki nasuwają Tomb Mold? Okej, jakąś tam różnicą jest tu język, bo Sedimentum nawijają po francusku. Na ile to jednak zachęta przy tego typu growlujących wokalach, odpowiedź nasuwa się samoczynnie. W każdym razie, i tak jest to bardzo dobre granie pod Incantation oraz pochodne - mimo że okładka sugerowałaby znacznie więcej albo coś nawet wymykającego się prostym porównaniom. Sprawdźcie chociażby tytułowca, "Supplice", "Funestes Manifestations" czy "Krypto Chronique II". Jest w nich ciężar, dużo trupa, pewna intensywność, czasem budowanie klimatu, innym razem chwytliwsze rytmy. W skrócie, sporo gęstego, choć utrzymanego w bardzo znajomych rejonach.
Takie płyty jak "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" nie wymagają zatem większej rekomendacji. Debiut Sedimentum to bowiem porcja bardzo dobrze wykonanej brudnej, intensywnej i mocno pierwotnej muzyki w typie wielokrotnie nadmienianego przeze mnie Incantation, która nie przynosi nic odkrywczego, ale nie powiela bezmyślnie swoich wzorców. W końcu, w oparciu o tenże styl Kanadyjczycy inaczej rozkładają tu proporcje klimatu, mieszają tempa, a nawet potrafią rozbujać. To już dużo jak na nieoryginalną płytę.

And what is it this time? Well, cadaverous death metal straight from Canada. It somehow happened that Sedimentum is a relatively new name in our world, oscillating in very tarry and simple in general form death metal, in the style of Incantation from albums no. 1 and 2, early Funebrarum, the first Disma and the first two Tomb Mold. Of course, there have been plenty of such inspirations, and some people have probably developed a disgust for this type of cadaverous death metal, although I admit that in this case I was very encouraged by the cover by Brad Moore (he also created cover arts for, among others, Worm and Tomb Mold) and I decided to give Canadians this chance. However, the start of Sedimentum was quite standard, i.e. first demos and splits, then a full-length one, although an important question quickly appears - does everyone actually have to have a spectacular start? Based on the content of "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque", I would say probably not, despite - as it will soon become clear - the discussion of quite typical material in this type of extreme music.
Since the patterns are already known on, there is no need for a detailed description of what it involves. Albums such as "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" are made by maniacs for maniacs who still don't have enough, and the debut of Incantation is known by heart and they are fascinated by this style as much as possible. My point, of course, is that Sedimentum's debut does not introduce any new quality or anything groundbreaking - there are simply no surprises here.
The riffs are very heavy, the sound crumbles with its heaviness, the vocalist growls and grunts so much that he is completely impossible to understand, the drummer hits simple rhythms or "Onward To Golgotha"-like blast beats in an exemplary manner, and the stench of rot lingers throughout the entire album. Did I mention that the doom or more atmospheric interludes remind me of Tomb Mold? Okay, the difference here is the language, because Sedimentum uses French. However, to what extent this is an encouragement with this type of growling vocals, the answer suggests itself. In any case, it's still a very good performance of worshipping Incantation and its derivatives - even though the cover art would suggest much more or something even beyond simple comparisons. Check out the title track, "Supplice", "Funestes Manifestations" or "Krypto Chronique II". There is heaviness in them, a lot of gloom, a certain intensity, sometimes building the atmosphere, sometimes catchier rhythms. In short, a lot of cadaverous death metal, although set in very familiar areas.
Therefore, albums such as "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque" do not require much recommendation. Sedimentum's debut is a portion of very well-written putrid, intense and very primal music of the type of Incantation I have mentioned many times, which does not bring anything groundbreaking, but does not mindlessly repeat its patterns. After all, based on this style, Canadians distribute the proportions of the atmosphere differently, mix tempos and even catchiness. That's a lot for a non-original album.
