Bloodbath - "The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn" (2018)

O miano jednej z najsłabszych płyt Bloodbath bez wahania powinno ubiegać się "The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn", tym samym wyprzedzając "The Fathomless Mastery", o którym swego czasu słyszało się od innych podobnie, nieciekawe opinie. W przypadku "The Arrow...", ma się wrażenie jakby kapela gdzieś zatraciła ogólny pomysł na muzykę i nie do końca wiedziała, w którym kierunku pociągnąć swoją stylistykę, na tyle żeby było wciąż oldschoolowo, ale inaczej. Idąc takim bezpiecznym tropem, kwintet stworzył tutaj wyłącznie zestaw standardowych dla siebie kawałków, mocno odtwórczych i totalnie nieporywających, osadzonych zbyt mocno w znanym stylu. Nawet na tle mniej ciekawego "The Fathomless Mastery", któremu można było zarzucić teoretycznie to samo, pozycja ta wypada słabiej i jeszcze bardziej sprawia wrażenie jakby była nagrywana z obowiązku. 

Na "piątce" Bloodbath brakuje przede wszystkim dawnej chwytliwości, ciekawszych riffów i porządnych pomysłów na ich rozwinięcie. Najlepszym tego przykładem są utwory "Morbid Antichrist", "Bloodicide", "March Of The Crucifers" czy "Wayward Samaritan", niby nieźle się rozkręcające i mające pewne punkty zaczepienia, a w finale nie prowadzące do niczego szczególnego. Większość muzyki "The Arrow..." niestety nie wywołuje jakiegokolwiek wrażenia. Jedynym powiewem świeżości jest tu otwierający całość "Fleischmann", gdzie pełno patentów...wprost black metalowych! Pozostała część to granie poprawne, nie wywołujące większych emocji i mocno przeorane w stylistyce szwedzkiego death metalu.

No i dobra, póki co tylko zrzędziłem na "The Arrow...", ale skłamałbym mówiąc że wyszedł im z tego totalny gniot. Słucha się tej płytki - jak na średniaka - całkiem przyzwoicie (nie miałem aż takiego problemu z wysłuchaniem jej od początku do końca), realizacja też stoi na wysokim poziomie, Nick Holmes podciągnął się z growlingami, a takie utwory jak "Deader" oraz "Levitator" od razu mogą się podobać. Z tego typu longami jest tylko jeden zasadniczy problem. Gdy ma się w dyskografii krążki pokroju "Nightmares Made Flesh" czy "Resurrection Through Carnage", coś takiego jak "The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn" po prostu jawi się jako niezłe rzemiosło dla najwierniejszych fanów lub by mieć pretekst do kolejnej trasy. Jak na miarę możliwości tych muzyków wyszło dosyć średnio.

"The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn" should apply without hesitation to the title of one of the weakest albums of Bloodbath, thus ahead of "The Fathomless Mastery", about which others have heard similarly, uninteresting opinions. In the case of "The Arrow...", it feels as if the band lost the general idea of ​​music somewhere and did not quite know in which direction to take their style, so that it was still old school, but different. Following such a safe trail, the quintet created here only a set of standard songs for themselves, strongly re-enacting and totally unappealing, set too firmly in a familiar style. Even against the background of the less interesting "The Fathomless Mastery", which could theoretically be accused of the same, this position fares weaker and even more gives the impression that it was recorded out of duty. 

The "The Arrow..." Bloodbath lacks the old catchiness, interesting riffs and decent ideas for their development. The best example of this are the songs "Morbid Antichrist", "Bloodicide", "March Of The Crucifers" or "Wayward Samaritan", which seem to get going well and have some starting points, and in the end they do not lead to anything special. Most of the music from "The Arrow..." unfortunately doesn't make any impression. The only breath of fresh air here is the opening "Fleischmann", where there are many patents...simply black metal! The rest of the sound is correct, does not evoke major emotions and is heavily plucked in the Swedish death metal style. 

Okay, so far I was just grumbling at "The Arrow...", but I'd be lying if I said that they came out of a total crap. Listening to this album - for an average person - quite decently (I had no such problem with listening to it from beginning to end), the production is also good, Nick Holmes pulled up with growlings, and songs such as "Deader" and "Levitator" they can be liked immediately. There is only one major problem with this type of longs. When you have albums like "Nightmares Made Flesh" or "Resurrection Through Carnage" in your discography, something like "The Arrow Of Satan Is Drawn" just appears to be a good cd only for the most loyal fans or to have an excuse for another tour. As far as possible, these musicians were quite average.
