Mayhem - "Ordo Ad Chao" (2007)

Zwieńczenie najlepszego okresu Mayhem, czyli "Ordo Ad Chao" właśnie. Dla wielu taka teoria to zapewne herezja i dyrdymałki, ale jednak nie dla mnie i idei tego bloga. Powiem nawet więcej, materiały Norwegów z lat 00-07 robią mi zdecydowanie bardziej niż słynne "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". Nie ma co owijać w bawełnę: po w miarę regularnej reaktywacji wydawniczej, Hellhammer i pozostała przemieszana (najczęściej sprzed "De Mysteriis...") ekipa podołała ciężarowi debiutu, a przy tym potrafiła osiągnąć równie zjawiskowy poziom i nadać swojej twórczości zupełnie nową jakość, czego przykładem okazały się doskonałe i różne od siebie "Grand Declaration Of War", "Chimera", no i także...omawiany krążek!

W pierwszej chwili obcowania z "Ordo...", czwarty album Mayhem powoduje olbrzymi szok. Norwedzy z ponowną obecnością węgierskiego wokalisty Attili Csihara bowiem totalnie odeszli tu od precyzji i sterylnych brzmień na rzecz...tych najbardziej pierwotnych, wręcz demówkowych! Na szczęście, bardziej bzyczący sound nie przełożył się na uproszczenie muzyki czy odejście w rejony sprzed "De Mysteriis...". Wręcz przeciwnie!, muzyka na "Ordo Ad Chao" zeszła w mocno dysonansowo-drone'owe i połamane klimaty mogące się kojarzyć z takimi aktami jak Portal, Deathspell Omega czy nawet SunnO))). Poza tym, nie ma się co dziwić, przy tego typu awangardzie ładniejszy sound mógłby też niespecjalnie oddawać nastrój całości albumu.

No właśnie, klimat to coś co najbardziej przesądza o geniuszu "Ordo...". Zespół osiągnął tu na tyle duszną, nerwową i doskonale trzymającą w napięciu atmosferę, że można uznać to dzieło za jedną z najbardziej intensywnych i chorych płyt w black metalowym nurcie. Słowa pochwał należą się więc wszystkim po kolei (no, może poza ledwo udzielającym się tu Necrobutcherem - polecam zajrzeć do książeczki, o czym mowa), począwszy od warsztatu Hellhammera, pomysłowości i zabójczej techniki Blasphemera, skończywszy oczywiście na Attili, który wokalizami przeszedł tu samego siebie (a zwłaszcza od strony przeraźliwych pisków). Co do samych utworów, nie byłoby żadną przesadą wymienienie całej tracklisty, choć...skłamałbym, gdybym nie wyróżnił "Deconsecrate", "Key To The Storms", "Illuminate, Eliminate" czy "Psychic Horns" (końcówka wymiata!) jako tych, przy których po prostu kończy się zasób słownictwa na opisanie geniuszu tej muzyki.

Jak wspominałem na początku recki, "Ordo Ad Chao" jest ostatnim tak wielkim i nowatorskim dziełem w dorobku Hellhammera i spółki. Robi to tym większe wrażenie, że był to już czwarty album, który przynosił tej grupie kolejny szereg zmian, a jednocześnie taki, który potrafił utrzymać bardzo wysoki poziom poprzedników. Trudno zatem o lepsze zwieńczenie swojego najlepszego okresu wydawniczego.

The culmination of the best period of Mayhem - "Ordo Ad Chao". For many, such a theory is probably heresy and dilemmas, but not for me and the idea of this blog. I will say even more, the Norwegian materials from the 00-07 years are better for me than the famous "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas". There is nothing to beat around the bush: after a fairly regular reactivation of the releasing new music, Hellhammer and the mixed-up line-up (most often before "De Mysteriis...") coped with the burden of their debut, and at the same time, they were able to achieve an equally phenomenal level, an example of which was the excellent and different "Grand Declaration Of War", "Chimera" and also...the discussed album! 

In the first moment of having contact with "Ordo...", the fourth album from Mayhem causes a huge shock. Norwegians with the renewed presence of the Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar have totally abandoned precision and sterile sounds in favor of...the most primal, even demo-like ones! Fortunately, the more "buzzing" sound did not come into simplifying the music or moving away to the regions before "De Mysteriis...". On the contrary!, the music on "Ordo Ad Chao" turned into a very dissonant-drone and broken atmosphere that can be associated with such acts as Portal, Deathspell Omega or even SunnO))). Besides, no wonder, with this type of avant-garde, a prettier sound could not really reflect the atmosphere of the entire album. 

Well, the atmosphere is what determines the genius of "Ordo...". The band has achieved such a stuffy, nervous and suspenseful atmosphere that this work can be considered one of the most intense and sick albums in the black metal trend. The words of praise are due to everyone in turn (well, maybe except for the barely contributing Necrobutcher - I recommend you to look at the booklet, which is what I'm talking about), starting from Hellhammer's talent, creativity and killer technique of Blasphemer, and ending, of course, of Attila's skills, who showed his all possibilities (especially from the shrill squeals). As for the tracks themselves, it would not be an exaggeration to mention the entire tracklist at this point, although...I would be lying if I had not singled out "Deconsecrate", "Key To The Storms", "Illuminate, Eliminate" or "Psychic Horns" (the end of this is incredible!) as those where the vocabulary to describe the genius of this music is simply running out. 

As I mentioned at the beginning of the review, "Ordo Ad Chao" is the last such great and innovative cd by Hellhammer and the rest of the company. It's all the more impressive as it was already the fourth album that brought this group another series of changes, and at the same time one that was able to maintain a very high level of its predecessors. It's therefore hard to find a better end to your best publishing period.
