Terrorizer - "Caustic Attack" (2018)

Od czasu reaktywacji Terrorizera minęło już trochę czasu, po drodze były różne dziwne perturbacje, ba, ukazały się nawet dwie płyty! Cóż, odbiór tych comebacków był niestety mało zadowalający. Oba te longplaye przepadły gdzieś w gąszczu setki innych ekstremalnych pozycji i do ogólnego dorobku Terrorizer nie wniosły zbyt wiele. Co ciekawe, z "Caustic Attack" sytuacja wcale nie wygląda jakoś lepiej. Będąc mniej zorientowanym w temacie, można wręcz pomyśleć, że to ich pierwszy powrót od czasów legendarnego "World Downfall" haha! 

Takie déjà vu pogłębia tutaj ponownie nowy skład, w którym - obok Piotrka Sandovala - znaleźli się Lee Harrison (tutaj obsługujący gitarę, na co dzień znany z bębnienia w Monstrosity) i (będący frontmanem) Sam Molina oraz - a raczej przede wszystkim - sama muzyka, która bardziej niż na poprzednich dwóch płytach sięga klimatem do nagrań sprzed pierwszego reunionu. Oczywiście, "bardziej" nie oznacza, że w 100%-ach; to nadal death-grind (aniżeli sam grindcore) tyle, że o nieco innym feelingu i poziomie intensywności niż na "Hordes Of Zombies" czy "Darker Days Ahead". Więcej zatem na "Caustic..." konkretów oraz kombinowania z riffami, a mniej na nim prostoty i przeoranych schematów jakich obecnie pełno u innych kapel w tym nurcie ("Trench Of Corruption" to najlepszy tego przykład). Nadal przeważa więc firmowe blastowanie Pete'a, proste gitarowe zagrywki, których nie powstydziłby się sam Jesse Pintado, punkowy czad oraz dosyć fajny, nuklearny klimat. 

Okej, sprawa gitar i perkusji nie wymaga większego rozwinięcia, co do tego można było w ciemno strzelać, że będzie co najmniej dobrze, wszak mowa o weteranach. Co innego wokale! Niestety, tutaj kapela dość mocno poległa moim zdaniem. Przede wszystkim, Molina preferuje zupełnie inny typ wokali w porównaniu do swoich poprzedników, o zdecydowanie wyższej barwie i jakby totalnie z innej bajki...jakby z jakiegoś hardcore'owego metalcore'a (?)! No a znaczy to tyle, że instrumenty - swoje, pan wokalista - swoje, a słuchający - że ma do czynienia z jakimś tworem terrorizero-podobnym. Nie chciałbym być źle zrozumiany, chały na "Caustic Attack" Amerykanie mimo wszystko nie odwalili, ale mam wrażenie, że z Rezhawkiem, materiał mógłby znacznie bardziej porywać i nie miałby tyle zgrzytów. Nawet z tą dosyć plastikową produkcją Jasona Suecofa! Znalazły się tutaj chociażby takie porządne strzały jak "Crisis", "Terror Cycles", "The Downtrodden", "Sharp Knives", "Infiltration" czy "Invasion". No a że jest tego jak widać sporo, to chyba doskonale obrazuje jak bardzo Sandoval z resztą zgrai zdążył się już wyrobić - że nawet rozczarowującym materiałem potrafią zainteresować.

Some time has passed since the reactivation of Terrorizer, there were various strange perturbations along the way, and even two albums were released! Well, the reception of these comebacks was unfortunately not very satisfactory. Both of these lps were lost somewhere in the maze of hundreds of other extreme cds and did not contribute much to the overall discography of Terrorizer. Interestingly, the situation does not look any better with "Caustic Attack". Being less informed, you might even think that this is their first comeback since the legendary "World Downfall" haha! 

Such déjà vu is deepened here again by a new line-up, in which - next to Pete Sandoval - there are Lee Harrison (here who plays the guitar, known for drumming in Monstrosity) and (who is the frontman) Sam Molina and - or rather, above all - the music itself which more than on the previous two albums reaches the atmosphere of recordings before the first reunion. Of course, "more" doesn't mean 100%; it's still a death-grind (than the grindcore itself), but with a slightly different feel and level of intensity than on "Hordes Of Zombies" or "Darker Days Ahead". So on "Caustic..." more details and combinations with riffs, and less simplicity and shabby patterns that are currently full of other bands in this trend ("Trench Of Corruption" is the best example of this). The well-known blasting of Pete still prevails, simple guitar pattents that Jesse Pintado himself would not be ashamed of, punky ideas and quite a nuclear atmosphere also do well. 

Okay, the matter of guitars and drums does not require much development, as to this, it was possible to guess blindly, after all, we are talking about veterans. But these vocals! Unfortunately, in my opinion, the band has fallen quite badly here. First of all, Molina prefers a completely different type of vocals compared to his predecessors, with a much higher timbre and as if completely out of style...as if from some hardcore-metalcore mix (?)! Well, it means that the instruments - play by their own way, the singer - sings by his own way, and the listener - that he has to do with some kind of terrorizer-like project. I wouldn't want to be misunderstood, the Americans didn't do much wrong with "Caustic Attack", but I have the impression that with Rezhawek, the material could be much more enthralling and it wouldn't have so many glitches. Even with this quite plastic production by Jason Suecof! There are, for example, decent songs such as "Crisis", "Terror Cycles", "The Downtrodden", "Sharp Knives", "Infiltration" or "Invasion". Well, as you can see a lot of it, it probably perfectly illustrates how much Sandoval and the rest of the band have already made - that they can be interested even they released disappointing cd.
