Autopsy - "Macabre Eternal" (2011)

Powrót Autopsy do (nie)żywych jawi mi się jako jeden z lepszych spośród większości starych wygów, którzy podjęli się reaktywacji i odzyskania "dawnych sił". Inna sprawa, że 3/4 składu z "Macabre Eternal" nie próżnowała przez lata posuchy u Autopsy. Panowie prężenie działali pod szyldem Abscess i kilka płyt (bo aż 6) zdołali wydać; stąd też w jakiejś części, było wiadome, że chujni nie wydadzą. No i faktycznie, rezultaty ich powrotnego albumu pod szyldem Autopsy mogą (ba, nawet muszą!) się podobać. Przede wszystkim, "Macabre Eternal" stroni od przesadnie sterylnego (czy - po drugiej stronie - zbyt demówkowego) brzmienia, zawiera sporo dobrych utworów i (prawie) nie spuszcza z tonu w żadnym momencie - czyli generalnie nie ma problemów z elementami, które u znacznej większości gigantów z wiekiem gdzieś wyparowały. No a - patrząc na dość spory szum wokół ich "kambeku" - wcale nie musiała im wyjść z tego bardzo dobra płyta.

A wyszła dużo ponad "normę powrotów" i w wyraźnie innym kierunku od "Shitfun". Stylistyką, "Macabre Eternal" można by upchnąć gdzieś między "Mental..." a "Acts...". Tak więc w granie pierwotne, nieprzyjazne, pełne zgnilizny, ale z naciskiem na ciężkie, deathowe brzmienia aniżeli te punkowe (mimo, że te też się pojawiają). Co więcej, po tym materiale naprawdę nie słychać, by upłynęło aż tyle lat od ich płyt z lat dziewięćdziesiątych! Syf i chęć pokazania fucka wszystkim i wszystkiemu pozostały niemal na takim samym poziomie z najwcześniejszych ich płyt, a jednocześnie udało im się to osiągnąć bez jakkolwiek napinki czy bazowania na sentymentach. Śmiem nawet stwierdzić, że to lata grania w Abscess i powrót Cutlera do tworzenia muzyki przyniosły jeszcze więcej ciekawszych pomysłów oraz - paradoksalnie - jeszcze lepszego "bycia nie na czasie". Najlepszym tego przykładem ultra-hiciory pokroju "Dirty Gore Whore" oraz "Sadistic Gratification" - niezwykle brzydkie i odrzucające, a zarazem bardzo pomysłowe i pełne znakomitej, patologicznej atmosfery. Ten drugi kawałek w szczególności jest sporym wyczynem dla kapeli Reiferta, bo sięga aż 11 minut i buduje napięcie lepsze niż sam "Ridden With Disease" (zwłaszcza ten monolog w środku, kapitalny patent!). Dobre wrażenie robią tutaj również "Spill My Blood", tytułowiec, "Hand Of Darkness", "Born Undead", "Sewn Into One"...jak więc widać sporo, a przecież to nie cała wyliczanka.

Tak naprawdę, jedyne co może wadzić "Macabre Eternal", i to tak bardziej po złośliwości, tyczy się czasu trwania kawałków. Cóż, pomimo przeważającej części znakomitych momentów, trafiają się mielizny (w szczególności w "Always About To Die" czy "Seeds Of The Doomed"), a przycięcie ich o tę minutę-dwie myślę, że nie wpłynęłoby gorzej na odbiór albumu. Wniosek z tego prosty, jak zabierać się za odsłuch "Macabre Eternal", to zabierać się, gdy ma się odpowiednio dużo czasu w zanadrzu! W innej sytuacji może umknąć cała masa smaczków, jakie zespół tu przygotował.

The return of the Autopsy to the (un)alive seems to me to be one of the best among most of the old bands who undertook the reactivation and regaining "old strength". Another thing is that 3/4 of the line-up from "Macabre Eternal" has not been idle for years at Autopsy's. They were active under the Abscess name and they managed to release a few albums (as many as 6); hence, to some extent, it was known that they were not going to give up. And in fact, the results of their comeback album Autopsy may (well, even have to!) to like. First of all, "Macabre Eternal" avoids overly sterile (or - on the other side - too demo-like) sound, contains a lot of good songs and (almost) does not drop the tone at any time - so generally it has no problems with elements that most of the giants have evaporated with age somewhere. Well, looking at quite a lot of hype around their comeback - they didn't have to come out with a very good album. 

And it went way beyond the "return rate" and in a clearly different direction from "Shitfun". Styling, "Macabre Eternal" could be located somewhere between "Mental..." and "Acts...". So in the primitive, unfriendly, full of rot, but with an emphasis on heavy, death metal sounds rather than punk ones (even though they also appear). What's more, after this material you can't really hear that so many years have passed since their albums from the nineties! The willingness to show fuck to everyone and everything remained almost at the same level from their earliest records, and at the same time they managed to achieve it without any effort or reliance on sentiment. I even dare to say that years of playing Abscess and Cutler's return to making music brought even more interesting ideas and - paradoxically - even better "being out of date". The best example of this is the ultra-hits like "Dirty Gore Whore" and "Sadistic Gratification" - extremely ugly and rejecting, and at the same time very inventive and full of an excellent, pathological atmosphere. The latter track, in particular, is quite a feat for Reifert's band, as it lasts as long as 11 minutes and builds tension better than "Ridden With Disease" itself (especially this monologue in the middle, a great patent!). "Spill My Blood", title track, "Hand Of Darkness", "Born Undead", "Sewn Into One" also make a good impression here...so you can see a lot, but it's not the whole counting. 

In fact, the only thing that "Macabre Eternal" can disturb to listeners is the length of the songs. Well, despite most of the great moments, there are extensions (especially in "Always About To Die" or "Seeds Of The Doomed"), and cutting them by a minute or two I think it would not have a worse effect on the reception of the whole album. The simple conclusion from this, is to start listen to "Macabre..." when you have enough time! Otherwise, the whole lot of curiosities that the band has prepared here may miss.
