Pestilence - "Hadeon" (2018)

Mała (lub po prostu niewystarczająca) ilość ekscesów i hype'u wobec albumów Pestilence z lat 09-13 w końcu pozmieniała się wraz z wydaniem następcy "Obsideo". Najpierw chwilowe zawieszenie działalności zespołu, wymiana całości ekipy przez Patricka Mameli, kilkukrotne formowanie się nowego (rzekomo finalnego) składu, potem z kolei problemy prawne z (pierwotną) okładką i trochę żenady na facebookowym profilu zespołu - wszystko to musiało na pewno znaleźć swe przełożenie na zawartość "Hadeon". No i...takiego wała! Gdyby nie net i pudelkowe spekulacje, "Hadeon" równie dobrze można by uznać za zwyczajne rozwinięcie tematów z "Obsideo" i nic więcej.

Żadna to tam jednak przeszkoda. Na ósmym wydawnictwie Pestilence, kapela Patricka Mameli ponownie zaprezentowała się jako ekipa obfita w całkiem sensowne pomysły i mająca zamysł na granie pod "Testimony..." w nowszej oprawie. Oczyyywiście, z miejsca oznacza to dość skromną ilość zmian i niekiedy zbyt bezpieczne trzymanie się wypracowanego stylu, tyle że...nie wadzi to aż tak całości! Otóż, w znacznej większości, podane jest to na tyle naturalnie i z powerem, że kompozycje nie cierpią na przesadną ilość auto-cytatów i mają w zanadrzu trochę smaczków, które odróżniają je od tych z poprzednich płyt. Jeśli miałbym się doszukiwać inności "Hadeon" na tle poprzedników to koniecznie nadmieniłbym o: solówkach Santiago Doblesa (wstrzelonych bardziej - a jakże! - pod Aghorę), nieco odważniejszym basie Tilena Hudrapa (z jednym całkiem niezłym popisem w "Subvisions"), wyższym strojeniu gitar, dużo mniejszej dawce blastowania, zabawie z vocoderami w "Astral Projection" i "Ultra Demons" oraz bardziej szorstkim soundzie całości. Wbrew pozorom to wcale nie tak mało. Nawet mniej wprawione ucho wychwyci wyraźnie inne pomysły i feeling "Hadeon" na tle poprzednich longplayów.

Wniosek z tego zatem prosty. "Hadeon" ogólnie może i nie ekscytuje w takim stopniu co poprzednie dwa krążki i nie ma tej siły rażenia (tak jakby się zdało oczekiwać), ale z drugiej strony, znakomicie odnajduje się w (jeszcze) bardziej zachowawczej formule i wciąż prezentuje dość wysoki poziom. Spory atut, ponieważ kilka płyt temu (a dokładniej to na "Resurrection Macabre") podobne podejście przecież krytykowałem...

The little (or just not enough) amount of excesses and hype over the Pestilence albums from 09-13 years has finally changed with the release of the successor to "Obsideo". First, a temporary suspension of the band's activity, replacement of the entire line-up by Patrick Mameli, several times the formation of a new (supposedly final) line-up, then problems with the (original) cover and a bit of embarrassment on the band's Facebook profile - all of this had to be came into "Hadeon" content. And...nothing of that! If not the Internet and strange speculations, "Hadeon" might as well be considered a mere expansion of "Obsideo" themes and nothing else. 

However, there is no obstacle there. On the eighth release of Pestilence, Patrick Mameli's band once again presented themselves as a band full of quite sensible ideas and having an idea to play under "Testimony..." vibes in a newer setting. Of course, it means quite a modest amount of changes and sometimes sticking to the style that they have developed too safely, but...it does not affect of the whole album! Well, in the vast majority of cases, it's given so naturally and with power that the compositions do not suffer from an excessive amount of auto-quotes and have some attractions up their sleeve that distinguish them from those from the previous albums. If I were to find "Hadeon" different things from its predecessors, I would definitely mention: Santiago Dobles' solos (more in style of - of course! - Aghora), a bit bolder bass by Tilen Hudrap (with one pretty good solo in "Subvisions"), higher tuning, a much smaller dose of blasting, playing with vocoders in "Astral Projection" and "Ultra Demons" and a rougher sound of the whole. Contrary to appearances, it's not so little. Even a less trained ear will notice clearly different ideas and feeling of "Hadeon" compared to previous lps. 

The conclusion is therefore simple. "Hadeon" in general may not be as exciting as the previous two albums and it does not have the impact power (as it would have been expected), but on the other hand, it fits perfectly in the (even) more conservative formula and still presents a fairly high level. A big advantage, because a few discs ago (on the "Resurrection Macabre") I criticized a similar approach...
