Chaos Over Cosmos - "The Silver Lining Between The Stars" (2021)

Mam dobrą wiadomość. Chaos Over Cosmos za sprawą "The Silver Lining Between The Stars" zagościł u mnie na dłużej i w sumie to ową płytę...przesłuchałem więcej razy niż poprzednie dwie razem wzięte! Nie znaczy też to z miejsca, że zakochałem się w tym stylu i nagle dostałem olśnienia co do wszystkich produkcji celujących w nowoczesny, progresywny metal, aczkolwiek w przypadku "The Silver..." dostrzegam znacznie więcej zalet niż wad. No a z perspektywy poprzedniego albumu, to już naprawdę sporo. Można bowiem odetchnąć z ulgą, że projekt Rafała wyraźnie się pozmieniał i że nie jest bezpośrednim rozwinięciem "The Ultimate Multiverse".

Powiem tak, więcej na "The Silver..." technicznego grania z pod znaku niemieckiej Obscury z domieszką bardziej znośnych płyt In Flames aniżeli stylu nawiązującego do nowszych odmian metalu (głównie z dopiskiem "core") czy skocznego power metalu z debiutu. Na szczęście, nowe style przemycone do Chaos Over Cosmos są wykonane solidnie, trzymają się kupy i nie powodują zbyt mocnego zgrzytania zębami. Odnoszę zresztą wrażenie, że z wyżej wymienionych inspiracji wzięto - na tyle na ile można - to co najbardziej strawne i nieprzedobrzone pod kątem melodii. Tak więc z jako tako niezłym wyczuciem. Z tego względu, na "The Silver..." technicznie jest pełen wypas, progresja nie przytłacza (przykładem "Violent Equilibrium" i "The Sins Between The Stars"), a do melodyki nie trzeba się przekonywać w takim stopniu co na poprzednich krążkach. Ba, nawet programowana perka sprawdza się jeszcze lepiej i nie drażni sztucznością, gdy pojawiają się blasty! - a to już duży atut. Podobnie udaną zmianą określiłbym również nowego wokalistę, KC Lyona, którego wokal - choć ogólnie niestety nie powala - wypada całkiem znośnie na tle poprzednich wokalistów. Po drugiej stronie, wada z tego drugorzędna, ponieważ najciekawszymi fragmentami "The Silver..." oczywiście wciąż pozostają partie bez śpiewu, tam gdzie króluje technika.

"The Silver Lining Between The Stars" można zatem traktować jako swego rodzaju nową drogę dla Chaos Over Cosmos. Słychać na tym wydawnictwie po prostu całkiem sensownie kształtujący się kompromis pomiędzy progresją, techniką a melodią. I to pomimo wielu tendencji, które wpisują "The Silver..." w nowoczesny, progresywny metal, za którym ogólnie średnio przepadam.

I have good news. Chaos Over Cosmos by "The Silver Lining Between The Stars" stayed with me for a longer time and in fact this album...I listened to more times than the previous two taken together! It does not mean that I fell in love with this style and suddenly I got a revelation about all productions aimed at modern, progressive metal, although in the case of "The Silver..." I see many more advantages than disadvantages. Well, from the perspective of the previous album, it's really a lot. Rafał's project has just clearly changed and that it's not a simple follow-up of "The Ultimate Multiverse". 

Well, on "The Silver..." there is more technical sound from the German Obscura with an admixture of more bearable In Flames albums than a style referring to newer types of metal (mainly with the note "core") or power metal from the debut. Fortunately, the new styles taken into Chaos Over Cosmos are solid, stick together, and don't make your ears bleeding. I have the impression that the above-mentioned inspirations were taken - as far as possible - what is most digestible and not reworked in terms of melody. So with a pretty good sense. For this reason, "The Silver..." is technically full of extravagance, subtle progression (for example "Violent Equilibrium" and "The Sins Between The Stars"), and the melody does not need to be convinced to such an extent as on the previous albums. Even a programmed drums work even better and does not irritate with artificiality when blasts appear! - and this is a big advantage. A similarly successful change I would also describe a new vocalist, KC Lyon, whose vocal - although unfortunately generally not very suprising - falls out quite tolerably compared to the previous singers. On the other hand, this is a disadvantage of secondary importance, because the most interesting fragments of "The Silver..." of course still remain the parts without singing, where technique dominates. 

"The Silver Lining Between The Stars" can therefore be considers as a new kind of new direction for Chaos Over Cosmos. You can just hear on this release a compromise between progression, technique and melody that is quite sensible. And this, despite the many tendencies that make "The Silver..." a modern, progressive metal that I am generally fond of on average.
