Incantation - "Vanquish In Vengeance" (2012)

Czasem dłuższe oczekiwania popłacają - nieczęsto, ale Incantation dobrym przykładem, że zdarzają się wyjątki od reguły. Po nieco słabszym okresie z lat 00-06 ponownie odmieniona ekipa Johna McEntee bowiem uderzyła z "Vanquish In Vengeance", krążkiem znacznie lepszym od poprzedników oraz ogólnie mocno wybijającym się spośród całości ich dyskografii z XXI wieku - pomimo że z tą nigdy nie było większych problemów. Co jeszcze ciekawsze, poziomu świętej trójcy, o którym rozpływałem się we wcześniejszych recenzjach, na "Vanquish..." również jednak nie osiągnięto...

Tyle że nic w tym złego! "Vanquish In Vengeance" to powrót do bardzo wysokiej formy, przewyższającej albumy z okresu "The Infernal Storm"-"Primordial Domination" oraz granie nie odbiegające od death/doomu z jakiego wcześniej zasłynęli. Z automatu wyklucza to wszelkie szanse na nowości, ale w przypadku omawianej płyty tego typu zabiegi nie są czymś pożądanym (pytanie, a na której są...) oraz nadają jeszcze większej autentyczności. Stare patenty zostały zgrabnie ułożone i wpasowane w nowszą oprawę (o której za chwilę), a sama w sobie muzyka nie nuży oraz nie nasuwa wniosków w stylu ale to już było. "Haruspex", "From Hollow Sands" czy "Transcend Into Absolute Dissolution" to raptem kilka z przykładów, które świetnie pokazują, że da się zagrać po staremu, a jednocześnie bez autocytatów i oklepanych schematów.

Na tym tle bardzo ciekawie wypada aspekt produkcji, ponieważ ta...stała się mocno dopieszczona! - w porównaniu do poprzednich krążków. Bębny są bardziej sterylne, gitary Johna i Alexa jakby czytelniejsze, wokal nieco mniej szalony, ba!, nawet bas wybija się częściej. Na szczęście, owe nowinki nie odbierają "Vanquish..." mocy czy ogólnie podziemnego charakteru tej muzyki - i to pomimo że sam wolałbym tu bardziej naturalny sound (najlepiej sprzed roku 2000). No i jeszcze na koniec znalazł się "Legion Of Dis", 11-minutowy kolos (nie nagrali podobnego od czasów "Diabolical Conquest"), a zarazem najbardziej ekscytujący kawałek z całości krążka. Wrażenie jest to tym większe, że na "Vanquish In Vengeance" upchnięto przecież naprawdę sporo sensownej muzyki!

Sometimes longer expectations are better - not often, but Incantation is a good example that they were exceptions to the rule. After a slightly weaker period from the years 00-06, the changed line-up of John McEntee's band released a "Vanquish In Vengeance", a cd much better than its predecessors and generally standing out among all their discography from the 21st century - despite the fact that there have never been any major problems with it. What's even more interesting, the level of "the great trinity", about which I melted in delights earlier reviews, on "Vanquish...", was also not reached...

But there's nothing wrong with that! "Vanquish In Vengeance" is a return to a very high form, surpassing albums from the "The Infernal Storm"-"Primordial Domination" period and style not different from the death/doom they were famous for. In their case, this excludes any chance for novelty, but such changes are not something desirable (question, and when they were...) and they give even greater authenticity. Old patents have been neatly arranged and fitted into a newer patterns (which will be discussed in a moment), and the music itself is not boring and does not bring to mind conclusions in the "but it was already there" style. "Haruspex", "From Hollow Sands" or "Transcend Into Absolute Dissolution" are just a few examples that they could play in the old way, without self-quotes and clichéd patterns. 

Well, against this background, the production aspect is very interesting, because this...has become very steriled! - compared to previous discs. The drums are more accurate, the guitars of John and Alex are clearer, the vocals are a bit less crazy, well!, even the bass is more frequent. Fortunately, these "novelties" do not take away "Vanquish..." the power or generally underground character of this music - despite the fact that I would prefer a more natural sound here (preferably from before 2000). And finally, there is "Legion Of Dis", an 11-minute colossus (they have not recorded a similar one since "Diabolical Conquest"), and at the same time, this is the most exciting track from the entire album. The impression is even greater that on "Vanquish In Vengeance" generally a lot of sensible music was included!
