Hypocrisy - "Worship" (2021)

Brutalnie tak zaczynać reckę, ale cóż, nie ma co ściemniać już na powitaniu. Najlepsze czasy dla Hypocrisy dawno przeminęły, a "Worship" jest po prostu kolejnym albumem w myśl uczynienia jak najlepiej wszystkim (czyli fanom grupy), tj. stroniąc od wielkich zmian, a skupiając się na przełożeniu standardowych dla siebie patentów w nośne, klimatyczne i niezbyt skomplikowane, melo-deathowe utwory. No i ze wszystkim tym...Szwedzi zwlekali aż 8 lat po "End Of Disclosure". Owszem, lepsza dłuższa przerwa wydawnicza niż wypluwanie ciągiem jednakowo miałkich krążków, ale niestety, słuchając "Worship" odnosi się wrażenie jakby owy album powstawał w rok/dwa lata przy sporym pośpiechu.

Żeby nie było, nie jest to zła płyta, paradoksalnie, trochę intrygujących motywów i liźnięcia tematu od innej, mniej oczywistej strony też się na niej znalazło. Problemem są dla mnie liczne, mało wyszukane melodie (choć nie w takim stopniu co na "The Arrival"), taki sobie power, niekiedy zbyt nachalne koncertowe rytmy (np. w "Chemical Whore") czy średnio przekonujący skrzek Petera (growlingiem jak zwykle daje radę). Reszta składowych, czyli: pomysły gitarowe, brutalniejsze akcenty (zwłaszcza w "Another Day" czy "Worship" - wielka szkoda, że takich kawałków zespół nie popełnił więcej), styl gry Horgha, okazjonalny, tajemniczy (w "Dead World" i "We're The Walking Dead") i podniosły (w "They Will Arrive") klimat czy ogólna technika, wywiera dość dobre wrażenie na tle takich-se kawałków (jak np. "Brotherhood Of The Serpent", "Children Of The Gray" czy "Bug In The Net"), ale niestety nie przeważa to na płycie. Słychać po "Worship" sporą chęć nawiązania do materiałów z przeszłości i pogodzenia ich w jedno, tyle że brakuje mi w tym spójności i jakiegoś większego namysłu. Wydaje się jakby grupa po prostu nie do końca wiedziała, w które sentymenty uderzyć najmocniej więc wzięła wszystkiego po trochu. Tak by nikt nie poczuł się urażony.

Zbierając te wnioski do kupy, "Worship" to rzecz z cyklu średniawka. No dobra, wszystko zagrane jest z klasą i mocno światowo, tyle że jak dla mnie to wciąż za mało, by się tym materiałem jakoś szczególnie podniecać. Brakuje mi tu efektu wow i chęci podejścia do tematu inaczej, nawet w obrębie znanej stylistyki.

It's so brutal to start a review like this, but well, there is no need to lie at the beginning. The best times for Hypocrisy are gone, and "Worship" is simply another album in order to do the best for everyone (the fans of the group), i.e. avoiding big changes, and focusing on composing standard patents into melodic, climate and not too much complicated songs. And with all this...the Swedes waited 8 years after "End Of Disclosure". Yeah, a longer publishing break is better than spitting out a series of equally poor cds, but unfortunately, listening to "Worship" gives the impression that the album was created in a year or two with a lot of haste. 

Okay, it's not a bad album, paradoxically, some intriguing motifs and an attempts of the topic from a different, less obvious side were also found on it. The problem for me are numerous, not very sophisticated melodies (though not to the same extent as on "The Arrival"), average power, sometimes too intrusive concert rhythms (e.g. in "Chemical Whore") or Peter's slightly convincing squawks (growling as usual gives advice). The rest of the components, that are: song structures, guitar ideas, more brutal accents (especially in "Another Day" or "Worship" - it's a pity that the band did not do more such songs), Horgh's style of drumming, occasional, mysterious (in "Dead World" and "We're The Walking Dead") and raised (in "They Will Arrive") atmosphere or the general technique, make quite a good impression on the background of mediocre tracks (such as "Brotherhood Of The Serpent", "Children Of The Gray" or "Bug In The Net"), but unfortunately it does not dominate the album. You can hear after "Worship" a considerable desire to refer to materials from the past and reconcile them into one, but it lacks coherence and some deeper reflection in it. It seems as if the group just didn't quite know which sentiments to choose the most, so they took a bit of everything. Therefore, no one gets offended. 

Summing up these conclusions together, "Worship" is a cd from the "average dose" series. Okay, everything is played with world-class, but for me it's still not enough to be particularly excited about this material. I miss the wow effect and the willingness to approach the subject differently, even within the well-known style.
