Sadus - "Out For Blood" (2006)

Niezwykłe, że musiało upłynąć 9 długaśnych lat, by "Out For Blood" ujrzał światło dzienne. W końcu, pomimo wyraźnych zmian jakie Sadus przeszedł na "Elements Of Anger", kapela Darrena Travisa spotkała się ze stosunkowo łagodną krytyką, toteż na spokojnie mogła odpływać w coraz lżejsze klimaty oraz wydawać tego typu muzykę co 3-4 lata - zwłaszcza dla tych, którzy polubili nowy styl (co mnie niestety nie było dane). Tymczasem zespół miał nieco inną wizję, przez co na "Out..." przyszło czekać dużo dużo więcej i postanowiono by jego zawartość dość znacząco odbiegała od brzmień z "Elements...".

Co ciekawe, "Out For Blood" zaczyna się jednak z wykopem (kawałkiem "In The Name Of..."), nawiązując do czasów "A Vision Of Misery" i sensownie przeplatając między thrashowymi szybkościami a drobniejszymi zwolnieniami. Niestety, czar pryska wraz z nadejściem "No More", od którego zaczynają się dziać totalne heca. Bo zamiast postawić na konkret odnośnie stylu (czy po całości muzykę zaostrzyć czy w niej nawydziwiać - o czym za moment), trio po prostu upchało tu wszystkiego co im wówczas w duszy grało, bez względu na efekt końcowy. No a ten, jest naprawdę słabiutki. Okej, poza wspomnianym "In The Name Of...", bronią się tutaj jeszcze zalatujące późniejszym Testament "Freedom" (przy okazji, hołd dla Chucka Schuldinera, według autorów), tytułowy (porządny power) oraz "Crazy" (w którym, notabene, pojawił się sam Chuck Billy, dodając trochę indiańskiego klimatu), choć to raptem tyle z największych highlightów (co przy 55-minutowym materiale zakrawa na żart). W pozostałych kawałkach zespół bawi się w przemycanie groove metalowych patentów (a w "Down" nawet metalcore'owych!) lub eksperymentuje z elektroniką, ale, niestety, nie wynika z tego nic sensownego. Nawet - jak zwykle - doskonała praca basu Steve'a DiGiorgio nie poprawia jakości tych numerów.

Po dziewięciu latach wydawniczej ciszy od czasów "Elements Of Anger", Amerykanie z Sadus przyłożyli więc wydawnictwem bardzo mocno poniżej swoich możliwości. Na "Out For Blood" postanowili oni bowiem powrzucać wszystkiego co im przyszło na myśl, od thrash metalu po groove'iastą skoczność i syntezatorowe dodatki. Wyszło im to jednak dość pokracznie, jakby nie dokonali jakiejkolwiek selekcji.

It's a bit shocking that it took 9 long years for "Out For Blood" to release. Well, despite the huge changes that Sadus has made to their style on "Elements Of Anger", Darren Travis' band met with relatively mild criticism, so it could calmly go into ever lighter climates and release this type of music every 3-4 years - especially for those who liked the new style (which, unfortunately, I didn't like so much). Meanwhile, the band had a slightly different vision, so we had to wait a lot more for "Out..." and it was decided that its content would differ quite significantly from the sounds from "Elements...".

Interestingly, "Out For Blood" starts with a powerful hit (i.e. "In The Name Of..."), referring to the times of "A Vision Of Misery" and meaningfully intertwining between thrashing speeds and smaller slowdowns. Unfortunately, the spell has broken with the coming of "No More", which begins to happen total atrocities. Well, instead of focusing on a specific style (whether to tighten the music or to do something weirder - about it later), the trio simply stuffed everything here as it goes, regardless of the end result. Well, this one is really weak. Okay, apart from the aforementioned "In The Name Of...", there are also songs that resembles the later Testament like "Freedom" (by the way, a tribute to Chuck Schuldiner, according to the authors), title track (decent power) and "Crazy" (in which Chuck Billy himself appeared, adding a bit of an Indian atmosphere), but that's all of the biggest highlights (which is a joke with the 55-minute material). In the rest of the tracks the band is playing smuggling groove metal patents (and in "Down" even metalcore ones!) or experimenting with electronics, but unfortunately it doesn't make any sense. Even - as always - the excellent bass work of Steve DiGiorgio does not improve the quality of these songs.

After nine years of silence from the times of "Elements Of Anger", the Americans from Sadus hit with the album very much below their capabilities. On "Out For Blood" they decided to throw everything that came to their mind, from thrash metal to groovy jumpiness and synthesizer additions. It came out quite grotesquely, as if they had not made any selection here.
