Miscreance - "Convergence" (2022)

Opluwacie reaktywację Atheist i wszystkie ekscesy powstałe po wydaniu "Jupiter"? Szydzicie z zachowawczości powrotnych albumów Pestilence i megalomanii Patricka Mameli? Uważacie, że Cynic wraz ze swoim reunionem się wyraźnie pogubił? Ubolewacie nad stratą Chucka Schuldinera? A może wciąż czekacie na normalny album od Sadus? Włosi z Miscreance przychodzą z interesującymi odpowiedziami na tego typu wymyślne pytania. Ci bowiem po swoim demówkowo-epkowym etapie uderzyli w 2022 roku z "Convergence", albumem, który śmiało może wypełniać lukę po rozczarowaniach związanych z wymienionymi wyżej tuzami wizjonerów technicznego death/thrash metalu.

Tak też to wygląda w praktyce. "Convergence" bardzo zgrabnie wyciąga z Pestilence, Death, Atheist, Cynic i Sadus wszystko co najbardziej smakowite z ich najbardziej technicznych okresów, aleee nijak się tego nie da uznać za zrzynkę czy ślepe naśladownictwo. Słychać tutaj niesamowitą frajdę, młodzieńczy wigor i łatwość w tworzeniu przyciągających uwagę utworów. Włosi więc po swojemu łączą riffowe piłowanie pod środkowy Death i Pestilence z okresu "Testimony Of The Ancient" z thrash metalowym feelingiem Sadus, dorzucając połamaną rytmikę najbliżej kojarzącą się, jak wspominałem, z Atheist oraz futurystyczno-kosmiczne wstawki przywodzące na myśl focusowy Cynic. Gdy jeszcze do tego dorzuci się rzyg pod Martina van Drunena (w wykonaniu Andrei Feltrina, który pełni także rolę garowego), śmigający bas oraz generalnie, soczyste i nieprzedobrzone brzmienie, z miejsca można się nad "Convergence" rozpływać w superlatywach. Noo, prawie, ponieważ jedyne zastrzeżenia można mieć tu wobec zbędnego outra "Requiem For Sanity" (minuta gitarowego plumkania) czy faktu, że w dosłownie paru momentach Włosi mogli zaszaleć...jeszcze bardziej! Z tym, że w owe zastrzeżenia tak naprawdę należałoby umieścić spory cudzysłów.

Na polu technicznego łojenia z 2022 roku, "Convergence" to pozycja wysoce rekomendowana. Nie jest wprawdzie ona tak rewelacyjna jak debiut Suppression, aczkolwiek ma ona na tyle dużo atutów, które nie wpisują tego wydawnictwa w zwyczajne mieszanie między patentami kilku większych nazw. Wręcz przeciwnie, wraz z wydaniem "Convergence" kwartet z Miscreance pokazał, że już na tak wczesnym etapie warto dać im szansę.

Are you spitting on the newer Atheist period and all the post-"Jupiter" excesses? Do you mock the conservatism of the returning Pestilence albums and Patrick Mameli's megalomania? Do you think Cynic is clearly lost with their reunion? Do you regret the loss of Chuck Schuldiner? Or maybe you are still waiting for a normal album from Sadus? Italians from Miscreance come with interesting answers to these types of sophisticated questions. After their demo-ep stage, they hit in 2022 with "Convergence", an album that can boldly fill the gap after the disappointments associated with the above-mentioned visionaries of technical death/thrash metal.

This is how it looks in practice. "Convergence" very neatly extracts from Pestilence, Death, Atheist, Cynic and Sadus everything the most delicious of their most technical periods, but in no way can it be considered as a blind imitation. Here you can hear incredible fun, youthful vigor and ease in creating thoughtful songs. The Italians, in their own way, combine with the riffing in the style of middle Death and Pestilence from the "Testimony Of The Ancient" period with the thrash metal feeling of Sadus, adding broken rhythms most closely associated with Atheist and futuristic-cosmic inserts reminiscent of the "Focus" by Cynic. Well, when you also add the vomit growls like Martin van Drunen (performed by Andrea Feltrin, who is also a drummer), exposed bass and generally, juicy and unadulterated sound, you can immediately dissolve in superlatives over "Convergence". Okay, almost, because the only reservations you can have here about the unnecessary outro "Requiem For Sanity" (one minute of guitar mumbling) or the fact that in just a few moments the Italians could go crazy...even more! Except that in these reservations you should really put large quotation marks.

In the case of technical albums from 2022, "Convergence" is a highly recommended cd. Although it's not as sensational as Suppression's debut, but it has so many advantages that do not fit this release into the usual mixing of several larger names from technical death/thrash metal. On the contrary, with the release of "Convergence", Miscreance showed that it's worth giving them a chance at such an early stage.
