Purtenance - "The Rot Within Us" (2023)

 

Premiera "Buried Incarnation" przypadła na dość wiadomy, niefortunny moment, aczkolwiek zdawać by się mogło, że wszelkie covidowe przeciwności nie zraziły Finów do dalszego działania w kierunku kolejnej, nowej muzyki. Na tą bowiem przyszło czekać 3 lata, a jej efektem okazał się być piąty longplay pt. "The Rot Within Us", na którym grupa nie zboczyła z wcześniej obranego kursu i pozostała w dobrze znanych rejonach. Znów więc temat rozchodzi się o obskurny i pełen brzydoty fiński death metal.

Tylko że co tu można więcej dodać na zachętę? U Purtenance w zasadzie niewiele się zmieniło, a niewprawione ucho powie, że na "The Rot Within Us" nie zmieniło się praktycznie nic od czasu ich powrotu na scenę; toteż kto polubił poprzednie krążki tych Finów ten i tutaj nie powinien czuć się zawiedzionym. Czy to coś złego? Chyba raczej nie, chociaż wszelkie ochy i achy wobec takiej zawartości czy umieszczanie tegoż longplaya do topek 2023 byłoby już grubą przesadą. Ekipa Harriego Salo oraz Juhy Ranniko po prostu kontynuuje to, od czego ich reunion nabrał rozpędu, a przy tym dobitnie ukazuje, że da się w stylu z "Member Of Immortal Damnation" cyklicznie rzeźbić kolejne płyty. Mało emocjonujące i z głównym przeznaczeniem dla metalowych słuchaczy na podobieństwo inżyniera Mamonia? A no tak, ale już na sam widok okładki widać, że będzie do bólu oldschoolowo, obskurnie i ciężko. Tak też jest, a takie kawałki jak "Mystic Sacrifice", "Unseen Sphere Of Realities" czy "Fate's Fearful Gesture" nawet jako tako nieźle mogą wstrzelić się w setlistę obok najbardziej pożądanych i kultowych hiciorów z "Member...". Na "The Rot Within Us" wprawdzie nie ma niczego, co przykuwałoby uwagę na dłużej, a sama mało mięsista i dość sucha produkcja pozostawia trochę do życzenia, aczkolwiek całości słucha się przyjemnie, nie sprawia ona jakichkolwiek problemów w dotrwaniu do końca i nie kłuje mieleniem podobnych motywów.

Takie płyty jak "The Rot Within Us" to po prostu poprawnie skomponowany i zagrany fiński death metal. Bez spazmów i jakichś większych chęci delektowania się, aczkolwiek wykonany na zadowalającym i przyzwoitym poziomie. Piąty longplay Purtenance bowiem nie drażni nawet, gdy pojawiają się odczucia z cyklu ale to już było.

The premiere of "Buried Incarnation" fell on a fairly well-known, unfortunate moment, although it would seem that all Covid adversities did not discourage the Finns from further action towards new, new music. We had to wait 3 years for this one, and its effect turned out to be the fifth longplay entitled "The Rot Within Us", in which the group did not deviate from the previously chosen course and stayed in well-known areas. So again, the topic is dingy and full of ugliness Finnish death metal.

But what more can be added for incentive? Not much has changed with Purtenance and the untrained ear will tell you that "The Rot Within Us" hasn't changed much since their return to the scene; so those who liked the previous albums of these Finns should not be disappointed here either. Is it something bad? Probably not, although any delights to such content or placing this longplay in 2023 tops would be a gross exaggeration. The band of Harri Salo and Juha Ranniko simply continue what their reunion gained momentum from, and at the same time clearly shows that it's possible to sculpt new albums in the style of "Member Of Immortal Damnation". Not very exciting and mainly intended for orthodox metal listeners? Oh yes, but just by looking at the cover art you can see that this music will be so much old-school, dingy and heavy. It's so, and such songs as "Mystic Sacrifice", "Unseen Sphere Of Realities" or "Fate's Fearful Gesture" can even hit the setlist quite well next to the most liked and cult hits from "Member...". On "The Rot Within Us" there is nothing that would attract attention for longer, and the production itself is not very fleshy and quite dry, but the whole thing is pleasant to listen to, it does not cause any problems in getting to the end and it does not reject of the similar themes.

"The Rot Within Us" is just properly composed and played Finnish death metal. Without spasms and any greater desire to enjoy, although made at a satisfactory and decent level. The fifth Purtenance lp doesn't irritate even when there are feelings from the series but it was already.
