Tehace - "Yearning For The Slime" (2014)
Przy takich materiałach jak "Zipped Noise From Hell" nóż się w kieszeni otwiera, że można było tak zawalić promocję, skład zespołu się nie utrzymał, a prasa (jak już się tam udało jakoś dobić) mylnie przypisywała wejherowski Tehace do zwyczajowego oglądania się na Morbid Angel. Nie zrozumcie mnie źle, po prostu, piecze tyłek, że zmarnowano taki zajebisty potencjał - z ich debiutanckim albumem serio można było wojować daleko, na globalną skalę. Był prężny i o sporych możliwościach wydawca, uzdolniony i młodziutki skład, a także - najważniejsza w tym zamieszaniu - oryginalna i wciągająca na długie godziny muzyka. Finalnie, cóż, o kapeli usłyszała garstka. To, o dziwo, nie załamało całkowicie chęci na kontynuację po "Zipped...". W nowym składzie i gdy upłynęło dużo wody w Wiśle (uściślając - 8 lat), Tehace powrócili z krążkiem nr 2 w 2014 roku, pt. "Yearning For The Slime". Pytanie jednak czy po takim czasie i okolicznościach można jeszcze nagrać równie zjawiskowy oraz odkrywczy materiał, który dorówna geniuszowi longplaya sprzed lat? Nie żeby coś, ale czasem lepiej pozostać zespołem jednej, wielkiej płyty.
Myślę, że Tehace podołali i ich sytuacja nie lokowała się jeszcze aż tak dramatycznie, choć trzeba to uczciwie przyznać, że pewne kwestie mogli oni zdecydowanie bardziej dopiąć (o czym zaraz), natomiast kilku innych zwyczajnie przeskoczyć się już nie dało (o nich również). Pierwsza rzecz - porównania do Morbid Angel. Że wcześniej wydawały się na wyrost, to już wspominałem nie raz. W przypadku "Yearning For The Slime" są...jak najbardziej trafione oraz trudno nie odnieść wrażenia, że grupa pod tym względem uległa jednoznacznej i narzuconej przez ogół klasyfikacji! Co ciekawe, ten element szybko idzie zaakceptować, gdyż Tehace zamiatają w morbidowym stylu na bardzo wysokim poziomie (i na pewno lepiej niż sami Morbidzi po 2011 roku), mają ciekawe pomysły na taką muzykę i nie boją się jej rozszerzać o kilka mniej oczywistych rejonów. Spodziewalibyście się po wyziewności i kosmosach "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" oraz walcowaniu "Gateways To Annihilation" urozmaiceń w typie jazzowej rytmiki ("Fibroademona 2"), orientalizmów ("Road To Slavery") czy przejmującej melodyki ("Neverending Day")? Ja też nie, a takie frykasy się tutaj zdarzają i - to jest najlepsze - pasują do morbidowania wyśmienicie.
Jak można zauważyć przywołałem drugą połowę krążka, która - świadomie lub nie - sytuuje się jako ta mniej oczywista, może nawet eksperymentalna. W każdym razie, broni się bardzo dobrze. Pierwsza połowa jest za to już dużo bardziej tradycyjna, tj. najwięcej w niej przytaczanego Morbid Angel (z tuckerowego okresu), ale także miazgi w typie Nile oraz lekko podczernianych klimatów bliskich Behemoth. Słucha się tego, rzecz jasna, wybornie, gdyż ww. wpływy nie są jakieś nachalne, nie ma w nich plagiatów i przekładają się one na chwytliwe utwory. Sprawdźcie zresztą "Ungod", "Slime", "Storm (Kashub From Hell)" czy "The Hunger", które tenże pomost prezentują z najlepszym wyczuciem. Tutaj przechodzimy jednak do drugiej ważnej, wzbudzającej już trochę wątpliwości, kwestii - ogólnie średniej oryginalności albumu.
Niestety, poza trzema kawałkami z drugiego akapitu, reszta "Yearning For The Slime" jest dosyć zwyczajowa i niewiele ma wspólnego z wyjątkowością debiutu. Z jednej strony, jest to dziwne, gdyż dla nowego pałkera grzanie na najwyższych obrotach nie wydaje się być większym problemem, a stopień trzepanki gitarowej wyraźnie wykracza ponad normę, plus spora część materiału powstawała w starym składzie; z drugiej, całość jest pozbawiona tej maniakalnej intensywności z "Zipped...", morbidowe szaleństwo jawi się lekko wykalkulowanym, natomiast o wcześniejszych zwrotach akcji w ogóle można tu zapomnieć. Nie do końca pasi mi też produkcja "Yearning...". Owszem, siedmiostrunowe gitarki wciąż wybrzmiewają bardzo fajnie, bas kołata się gdzieś w tle, wokale Krzyśka nawiązują do jedynki, ale z perkusją sprawa tak ciekawie nie wygląda - brzmi dosyć kartonowo i bez wcześniejszej głębi. Minusy nie przysłaniają plusów, ale z większym mięchem w produkcji, werwą młodzieńców (tu wracamy do tego, że niektórych kwestii przeskoczyć się nie da) oraz brutalnością i technicznymi zawijasami w muzyce materiał mógłby solidnie kopać dupę. No a tak, pozostaje pewien niedosyt.
Tak czy owak, po 8 latach posuchy, Tehace nagrali w nowym składzie bardzo dobry krążek, ale nie tak finezyjny i pomysłowy co debiut. "Yearning For The Slime" to kawał solidnie wykonanego worshipowania środkowemu Morbid Angel, które może poszczycić się fajnym, oldschoolowym klimatem, niezłą chwytliwością oraz duchem majestatu samego Treya Azagthotha, który z jakiegoś powodu przestał przecierać szlaki dla ekstremy. Zabrakło tu wprawdzie wcześniejszej oryginalności, aczkolwiek kwartet na "Yearning..." o żadne kalki się nie otarł i sensownie wyciągnął esencję "Formulas..." oraz "Gateways..." wiadomej kapeli. Jedyne z czym tak naprawdę przefolgował to z okładką, która wygląda koszmarnie i nie pasuje do muzyki.

With such materials as "Zipped Noise From Hell" it's a shame that the promotion could be so screwed up, the band's line-up didn't hold together, and the magazines (when they somehow managed to get there) wrongly attributed Tehace to the usual worship of Morbid Angel. Don't get me wrong, it's just painful that such great potential was wasted - with their debut album they could have become more famous, on a global scale. There was a dynamic and capable label, a talented and very young line-up, and also - the most important thing in this mess - original and engaging music. Ultimately, well, only a handful heard about this band. Surprisingly, this didn't completely destroy the desire to continue after "Zipped...". With a new line-up and after a lot of waiting (8 years to be precise), Tehace returned with album no. 2 in 2014, entitled "Yearning For The Slime". The question is, however, whether after such time and circumstances it's still possible to record equally phenomenal and groundbreaking material that will match the genius of the longplay from years ago? Well, sometimes it's better to remain a band of one, big album.
I think Tehace managed and their situation was not yet so dramatic, although it must be honestly admitted that they could have definitely done better on some issues (I will discuss about it later), while there were a few others that simply could not be overcome (about it later, also). The first issue - comparisons to Morbid Angel. I have already mentioned more than once that they seemed exaggerated before. In the case of "Yearning For The Slime" they are...most definitely on target and it's hard not to get the impression that the group has succumbed to the unequivocal and imposed classification in this respect! Interestingly, this element is quickly accepted, because Tehace moves in the morbid style at a very high level (and certainly better than Morbid Angel themselves after 2011), they have interesting ideas for such music and are not afraid to expand it to a few less obvious areas. After the brutality and cosmic space of "Formulas Fatal To The Flesh" and the heaviness of "Gateways To Annihilation", would you expect variations in the form of jazz rhythms ("Fibroademona 2"), orientalisms ("Road To Slavery") or tearful melodies ("Neverending Day")? Me neither, and such delicacies do occur here and - this is the best - they fit Morbid Angel formula perfectly.
As you can see, I mentioned the second half of the album, which - consciously or not - is positioned as the less obvious, maybe even experimental. In any case, it defends itself very well. The first half, on the other hand, is much more traditional, i.e. in Morbid Angel style (from Tucker's times), but also with brutality of Nile and slightly blackened climates close to Behemoth. Of course, it's a great listen, because the aforementioned influences are not intrusive, there is no plagiarism in them and they come into catchy songs. Check out "Ungod", "Slime", "Storm (Kashub From Hell)" or "The Hunger", which present this bridge with the best feeling. Here, however, we come to the second important issue, which already raises some doubts - the album's generally average originality.
Unfortunately, apart from the three tracks from the second paragraph, the rest of "Yearning For The Slime" is quite ordinary and has little in common with the exceptional nature of the debut. On the one hand, it's strange, because for the new drummer, playing at the highest speed does not seem to be a big problem, and the level of guitar technicality clearly exceeds the norm, plus a large part of the material was created by the old line-up; on the other, the whole thing is devoid of the manic intensity of "Zipped...", the Morbid Angel madness seems slightly calculated, while the earlier plot twists can be forgotten here. I am also not entirely satisfied with the production of "Yearning...". Yes, the seven-string guitars still sound very nice, the bass rattles somewhere in the background, Krzysiek's vocals refer to the first album, but the drums are not so interesting - they sound quite cardboard and without the previous depth. The minuses do not overshadow the pluses, but with more fleshy sound, the verve of youth (here we come back to the fact that some issues cannot be skipped) and brutality and technical flourishes in the music, the material could kick ass. Well, yes, there remains a dissatisfaction.
Anyway, after 8 years, Tehace recorded a very good album with a new line-up, but not as sophisticated and inventive as the debut. "Yearning For The Slime" is a piece of solidly made worship to the mid Morbid Angel, which can boast a nice, old-school atmosphere, good catchiness and the spirit of majesty of Trey Azagthoth himself, who for some reason stopped showing the way for extreme music. It lacked the earlier originality, although on "Yearning..." the quartet sensibly extracted the essence of "Formulas..." and "Gateways..." of the well-known band. The only thing they really failed to do is the cover art, which looks terrible and does not fit the music.
